Yesterday we did our #Countryduty & marched to @ParliamentofRSA together with @TrueCost_SAAPA & various community members from Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Manenberg & Michelle’s Plain to hand over a memorandum demanding urgent focus on the #TrueCostOfAlcohol & its impacts on communities.
“In their memorandum, the organisations called on Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance “to champion fiscal policies that protect public health and community wellbeing.”
“Alcohol taxation must not be viewed solely as revenue collection, but as a powerful prevention measure capable of reducing violence, injuries, and long-term health costs.”

The #TrueCostOfAlcohol is often unspoken about nor the devastating consequences of such.
Each year, alcohol claims between 37,000 people a year in South Africa. 100 families are being torn apart every single day, losing a mother, a child, breadwinner, or community member, to a preventable cause.
An increase in Excise Tax on Alcohol could aid in curbing the #TrueCostOfAlcohol
