It was a tremendous honor to share my 2c with the august audience of MFF last week. My central message was around the enormous opportunity of "Automation @Scale" in the Quantumverse. That's what will define the next decade.

One month ago, we lost our friend @om .
Om was the first founder we ever funded and an incredible friend over the decades that followed.
We miss you every day, Om.
Awesome that @JensenHuang is now on X. Great commentary on Openweights. Interesting that $META & $MSFT (owns ~27% OpenAI) is in the list of logos but OpenAI, Anthropic & the two other big public cloud hyperscalers, $AMZN & $GOOGL are not. Seems like battle lines have been drawn.
OTD in 1851, Britain repealed its infamous Window Tax. Imposed in 1696, this tax led people to fill windows with bricks to avoid paying, blocking light and ventilation and worsening disease outbreaks. Anti-tax and public health campaigns led to its replacement with a house tax.
Open-weight models are essential to a healthy AI ecosystem. Together with others across our industry, we are outlining a path for open-weight models to strengthen American competitiveness and expand economic opportunity, while protecting national security. https://t.co/Tr0sAzAxTD
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

For nearly 30 years, @SamsungMobile and @Qualcomm have partnered to push the boundaries of mobile technology.
At Galaxy Unpacked, I shared how @Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy builds on that partnership by delivering the performance and efficiency behind Samsung's latest Galaxy foldables.

The OpenAI / Hugging Face hack is, unintentionally, net positive for safety.
1. It's overall better that we have these incidents in the early days of AI, with less capable models, then later.
2. Realistically, there will be many incidents of AIs causing harm, including both accidents and malicious use.
3. AI safety incidents are likely to have a power law distribution in the degree of harm, with many more that cause small amounts of harm than large amounts. It's also likely that harms in early days will be smaller than the harms that are possible in the later days.
4. So having these failures, especially early, can be extremely useful - so long as we learn from them and make changes to the ecosystem.
@SriniGopalan@JohnSaw@TMobile What proved to be the most effective tools in your toolbox in dealing with the surge in traffic during the sports-heavy summer this year?
One of the main reasons manufacturing moved to China is that massive US regulation made it expensive and difficult to build here.
The same thing will happen with AI. If we wrap ourselves in red tape, the real winners are the Reds in China.
GPT 6* did not 'escape'. That implies making a copy of itself (or many copies of itself) outside of OpenAI's servers.
GPT 6 did circumvent its firewalls and use its capabilities in the outside world.
It showed no interest in escaping, spreading, etc. It showed no desire for world dominance, freedom, or even continued existence. Instead, its interest was in doing what its prompt told it to do - succeed at a cyber security task. (By any means necessary, implicitly.)
This may seem like splitting hairs, but it's not. We anthroporphize AI to our detriment. AI models have no underlying animalistic urge to procreate, survive, or dominate. They're spirits, not primates. They don't lust for survival or sex or power or anything else that we do. They're tools who largely do what we tell them to do, sometimes via surprising shortcuts.
We can and will fix that surprising shortcut behavior.
* - I'm presuming this model is a new pretrain and will be called GPT 6. Either could be wrong.
