Minor Hindu girl Pooja Meghwar handed over to the Shar community accused — her family kept crying and pleading inside the court.

According to the medical report, the Hindu girl Pooja, declared 15 years old (a minor), did not have her statement recorded for 10 consecutive days. During this time, whenever she met her parents or gave a statement to the police under Section 161, she kept crying and pleading to return to her family, but no judge recorded her statement at that time. Instead, she was repeatedly sent back to the Darul Aman (shelter home).

Eventually, due to mental stress and fear, she gave a statement in favor of the accused, saying she wished to go with them. Based on that, the court handed her over to the Shar community accused, even though a case of abduction and child marriage is registered against them.

Despite both her B-form and medical report confirming she is 15 years old and a minor, the decision to hand her over to the accused is, in my opinion, a clear injustice and cruelty toward the Hindu community. When Pooja was repeatedly trying to go to her parents earlier, why wasn’t her statement recorded then?

We appeal to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Sindh High Court, and other higher judicial institutions to take immediate notice of this matter, recover Pooja Meghwar from the accused, and allow her to meet her parents privately — or at least send her back to Darul Aman for now, as Pooja is still a 15-year-old innocent minor girl.
