I am a palliative care doctor who is not opposed to AD.
But on the eve of tomorrow's vote, it boils down to this.
Enshrining in law a state-funded right to die, while not enshrine a similar right to the palliative care that might make life worth living, is deeply wrong. 🧵
Devastated at the #AssistedDyingBill passing through the House of Commons - a tiny majority of 23 on a Private Member's Bill is no way to pass through legislation that will drastically alter how Disabled people trust and engage with healthcare professionals.
I just.....
Lost by 23 votes.
MPs who voted yes have no idea how many people are failed every day of the week by multidisciplinary teams and social workers.
Just ask very severe #pwME who are wrongly sectioned in England/Wales.

@thestrayferret No, I'm not in favour, I think this Bill has been rushed through, the slim majority shows that and there are still too many unaddressed concerns, particularly from organsations and groups representing vulnerable people.

Investigative journalism isn’t fast or easy. It takes time, resources, and persistence. But it makes a difference. The Ferret has spent years exposing corporate misconduct, political influence, and environmental harm. Help us continue: https://t.co/I8fxNuF3uI
The ignorance and indifference of the Postmasters union was a significant factor in perpetuating the Post Office scandal. It is happening in plain sight with gender. Unite, Unison etc are being wilfully blind to the truth. It’s facile, moronic and unfair. https://t.co/uWzUvVHaE2
On #IWD2025, we reflect on the feminist origins of Southall Black Sisters.
SBS was born out of a need to campaign for and support victim-survivors within our communities at the margins of society. 1/6
It’s telling how explicit the striver v scrounger rhetoric already is. This isn’t GB News or The Sun. The BBC’s lead politics broadcaster is asking why those idle disabled people are getting loads of cash from the taxpayer. Deeply irresponsible and yet entirely normalised.
Since the Labour government was elected, not one BBC story on "UK defence spending" has featured a voice opposed to increased defence spending.

Bernie Sanders: “Musk is so arrogant that he is even intervening in a Supreme Court election right here in Wisconsin… if this guy can intervene in a Supreme Court election in one state, you tell me what mayor's race, what governor's race, what Senate race he cannot buy.”
