Day 21 of a strike by New York State prison Correction Officers. Many of the striking officers appeared to have returned to work on Sunday, but strikers from from the Upstate Correctional Facility vowed to "battle to the very end."

Upstate is part of a cluster of 3 state prisons near the Canadian border outside of Malone. The other two are Bare Hill Correctional Facility and Franklin Correctional Facility. Bare Hill was the first to be built in 1988.

"First inmates arrived on Nov. 22 at this site," a road-side sign in front of it says. Its the same kind of official blue-and-yelllow painted sign marking places where George Washington slept or the Mayflower landed and the like.
