On pages 280-281 we see sierra shadowshape. The book mentions "become one" with the spirits. I think this scene really show's how far Sierra has come in her shadow shaping and really embracing her power/family legacy. #engl20512

@SophDugan23 I think you make a great point! Sierra not only feels betrayed but also excluded. No one likes when something is kept from them but not their sibling. I think it adds to Sierra being relatable and having emotions that YA readers can relate to. #engl20512

On page 93, Sierra and Robbie talk about shadow shaping and how it really happens. I feel like it's interesting how the author describes shadowshaping and I think that he maybe could have elaborated and painted a better picture because it's maybe slightly confusing. #engl20512

@trevorr177 I would also say that 95% of books I read had a white main character and possibly had supporting characters that were POC. Even if there were people of color playing any sort of role in the book, their lives and personality were barely touched on. #engl20512

@MorganSchenkel This is very important. Like we're discussing in class reading about blackjoy is important. Blackjoy can also tie into representation because the more representation that we see, the more stories we read about different black lives and possibly more happy stories. #engl20512

The cosmo article "don't just read about racism" mentions how what we read and watch shapes us. I think everyone can relate to pressure from the media to look a certain way but especially when you have no representation it has to be so much more difficult. #engl20512

@Cierra51570013 His uncles response surprised me. I know that the rules are important to them but personally I think that someone wouldn't want their own nephew wrapped up in violence even if it was to avenge Shawn. It made me wonder if he cared about Will's safety. #engl20512

@valatkas_payton I like how your mentioned that the portrayal is realistic because a lot of times authors are too worried about the response to write about gun violence but Reynold's was very upfront and did it in a way that was beneficial to learning about the actual effects. #engl20512

This scene was so emotional and sad. It really makes me think about people who have had to go through a loved one dying from violence. I really wasn't expecting shawn to get on the elevator even though everyone else was on, I just didn't expect it.#engl20512

After Shawn dies, before Will steps on the elevator, he gives reason as to why he thinks Riggs killed his brother. To me none of those reasons really explain why he would what to kill shawn and at this point the reasoning doesn't make much sense. #engl20512

The website Riveted by sion teen mentions that not only is the book a graphic novel but it also is written as poetry. They call it a "novel in verse." This is interesting to me because i don't read graphic novels or poetry. #engl20512
