Dressed as a bride, crowned with flowers & stars, Virgin Mary reads from a girdle book. The inscription says she is “more beautiful than the sun & the army of the stars…truly the reflection of eternal light & a spotless mirror of God” (Van Eyck, Ghent Altarpiece, 1432)
@bernardtjoy I had a (U.S. state university)publisher say they'd publish my book if my dean gave them $2k. I laughed t them and said that my dean didn't even like me enough to give me a new computer to type the *next* book.
@artinsociety Is this her saving Theophilius? That's the only story I know like this. He really didn't deserve it. There's a whole carved tympanum about it in Souillac.
@chapps@SarahBlick3 So glad you liked it! I have high hopes for the book, now that people I respect so much have enjoyed the teaser. After the grandkids go, I'll start in on the editing. One big change I see is that I'm going to peel my gargoyle discussion in the conclusion off into its own chapter!
Anticipating #MedievalMonday, here's my new post. An out-take from my book draft. #Satan as #serpent & #dragon. @SarahBlick3 was kind to give me some advice on it in June. Hope you like it! https://t.co/Q4QL6ZvHpY
@WittsPat@SarahBlick3 Thanks so much, Pat! I'd love for you to read it! I'm plunging into editing after grandkidaggedon ends on Nov. 4. The fact that some of you have liked it gives me enthusiasm for what's usually a chore!
@arakhnos@SarahBlick3 Thank you, Jon! All this positive feedback makes the upcoming editing less daunting. Yes, I think the aquamanile would be great to have alongside one's bath to warm up the water.
My limerick using #glutesmaxxing & a form of callipygous. Not as good as @antmoose 's. @chapps@arakhnos
Antinous’ buns were like steel
And Hadrian found them quite callipygeal.
No glutesmaxxing needed;
History has conceded,
As sculpture attests his appeal.
