With a background in arts development and writing, I now live in France where I write; run a tea room and a boutique specializing in all things vintage!
Oh dear this new UK Labour government. Not a great way to start. Rather than penalising the vulnerable & poor- ridiculously low threashold re fuel allowance - what about properly taxing the wealthy & cutting down on armaments & releasing funds? Different budgets? Well reallocate.
Is it still possible for us in the 21st century to truly connect and synchronise with nature as the late 18th German Philosophers and early 19th century English Romantic poets did with nature? I think that our affinity with technology may detract from that possibility.
The internet is 'down' in my village again. It is the 4th time in 2 years. I suspect that it's those insidious copper thieves again who steal from the transmitters.
This is such a selfish crime and one that has a huge impact on all our lives. Thank goodness l have a mobile.
@netherfield34 I bet it's delicious if a wee bit calorific. Still Major Marshall's Chutney sounds divine and l guess you only need a spoonful with your ploughman's lunch or with poppadoms! Who was Major Marshall?
@Tjeerd001 The brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows in the currently airing on Netflix, gripping American series 'Prison Break'. I don't know why they have different surnames...l must have missed that rationale.
@AmitaMurray Did you feel drawn to him? I don't think that age is necessarily that relevant. If l had felt a connection with him l would have not have given him my phone number...too soon..but l maybe would have arranged to meet him again somewhere public. Anyway who are Demi and Ashton?
@IvyGateFlowers A stunning array of vibrant, hot summery colours with an autumnal twist. Your inspiration is clearly reflected in these floral arrangements. I am sure that everyone at the wedding would have appreciated them. You enhanced the celebrations.
@FrMartinFlatman Well l suppose it is possible that this was the hostelrie where the pilgrims had their last meal. Yet surrounded by all those lurid 'sinners' with their seemingly loose morals imbibing liquor? Converesly was it Peter or Paul who said "take a little wine for thy stomachs sake"?
@DrJaninaRamirez For Darjeeling it's loose leaf Twinings; no milk or lemon. For other loose leaf teas it's an importer. For your bog standard 'Builder's Tea' it's PG Tips! All teas should be made in a tea pot & served in porcelain cups or mugs made by your local potter. This is non negotiable.
A Canadian judge has sentenced a man for forging thousands of Norval Morrisseau paintings. Perhaps not that hard to fabricate...Not that I think its morally right...but I kind of admire those who have the talent to forge original paintings.
@Carol4OliveFarm Perhaps a zoo...I am not a fan of zoos unless they are committed to conservation & reintroducing animals into the wild. But a zoo or an animal circus (eek) might have wolves. A year or so ago I saw a van parked by the river as 3 wolves emerged with their owner. Strange but true.
@Carol4OliveFarm Obvious be careful. In many ways they are majestic creatures, but yes they can be destructive and they are incredibly fast! Bonne chance!
@FrMartinFlatman The Pilgrim 'Fathers and Mothers' would have felt at home here...Oh no they wouldn't...they were Puritans...Still the interior if this public house if it is 'The Mayflower' is redolent of a by gone era. I am pleased that dogs are allowed. Was there sawdust on the floor?
"The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils; The motions of his spirit are dull as night, And his affections dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music."
"If music be the food of love, play on..." (Duke Orsino, Twelfth Night). Not that I am 'in love'... but I remember...

Concerto en ré mineur per viola d'amore, archi e continuo, Rv 395: Allegro. Antonio Vivaldi.
@Skentelbery@Production_DanB Yes, home made is best. Until recently I would make on commission 20 Christmas Cakes. I always made my own marzipan. For Easter I would make a few Simnel Cakes. Actually here in France some of the bought marzipan is tolerable & the ready rolled is okay. For emergencies only!
Many over 60 have to work; but if you don't have to but you want to Craig Millar's story illustrates that it is never too late. At 64, he became his town's newest volunteer firefighter. “It was something I realised I had to do..."
