Last week Business Corridor Navigators started canvassing in Andersonville, Lincon Square, Albany Park and downtown business corridor to ensure newcomers understanding the rights and responsibilities of commercial businesses and the process of obtaining a street peddling license!
The Committee hosted a City Key Event in Belmont Cragin where about 200 people were able to obtain the City Key ID! Thank you to partner organizations Metropolitan Family Services, Onward house, Family Focus and Northwest Center this great event!
It was a productive week, Mobile DMV Event, 1st training for Community Navigators & volunteers to help street peddlers at business corridors apply for a peddling license and last the Know Your Rights event for this year in Hyde Park! Thank you to all our community partners!

This weekend, the Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights attended and supported the celebration of Thanksgiving at several shelters in the city. Thank you to the Illinois Venezuela Alliance, more than 2,000 migrants in the shelters experienced a Thanksgiving!

We had some great conversations with organizational leaders about many of the same issues affecting all vulnerable Chicagoans whether you are a returning citizen or a long-time undocumented immigrant: lack of affordable housing & childcare, accessible mentorship & dignified jobs.
Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights staff volunteered at Ald. @taylorfor20th Returning Citizens Summit and learned about the ways Chicagoans are transitioning from inside to outside following incarceration. We all deserve resources to live and thrive!
