This is a smart move for humanity. Between 1945 and 1992 the US tested 1,054 nuclear weapons. About 1 every 18 days on average. Dating back to the Kennedy administration leftists lobbied to stop this testing. Bush 1 was the first president dumb enough to listen to them. Instead of reducing our rate of testing to once or twice a year, or even once every ten years, Bush was irresponsible and stopped completely. We were told that these weapons could be "virtually" tested with computer simulations. Nuclear weapons are extremely complex machines that have precision machined metals, plastics, styrofoam, high explosives, wiring, rubber, glass, ceramic, and gelatin parts. Parts that can corrode, shrink, crack and fail. The only way to know with 100% confidence that if the president ever orders their use they will work 100% of the time, the first time, every time, is to occasionally test them. Up until the 1990s every modern president had advisors who had actually witness nuclear testing. Most of them are now elderly and no longer in government. Having advisors and policy makers who have never witnessed the awesome power of these weapons first hand leads to bad decision making like we saw during the Clinton, Obama, and Biden administrations allowing North Korea to get the bomb and Iran being allowed to work on their nuclear program.

The Indemnity Fund is 6 years behind in paying out awards to needy families who have lost their homes and Maria is yelling at her makeup artist to fix her eye liner before the next photo shoot... Illinois is the only state in the country that has a safety net "Insurance Policy" in law that allow families who have lost their homes for non payment of taxes to apply for an award that will help them repurchase the home and get back on their feet financially speaking. Unfortunately in @CookCountyTreas Maria Pappas has severely mismanaged the program and she is SIX years behind on paying out awards to the families who desperately need help. Pappas is also opposing common sense legislation pending in Springfield supported by the non-profit Homeowners Indemnity Fund Association that if passed would strengthen the safeguards this program provides and assure that state is in constitutional compliance with the recent SCOTUS decision.
