Respectfully Darren, you’ve lost the plot. Journalism was never supposed to be a for-profit business, but a public good. And when it shifted to a purely capitalistic model, it compromised the very integrity it was built on.

Surely you’re not naive enough to understand why many see Jeff Bezos gutting the Post as politically motivated — especially in light of his relationship to this administration. He’s deeply compromised.

Beyond that, there’s no question that journalism has to adapt to the times — but that adaptation doesn’t have to come at the expense of thoughtful coverage. You meet the audience where they are, but you also give them what they don’t know they need.

They need storytelling, depth, context and insight. The audience still responds to those things and that will always be in demand.
