Today, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa had the privilege of watching an exciting encounter between Scotland FC and CAPS United.

Sport is a powerful instrument for unity, healthy living and national pride. It should bring us together, not divide us. However, violence, hooliganism, drug and substance abuse have no place in our game.

The First Lady once again reiterated her call to supporters, players and club leaders to reject all forms of violence and to uphold discipline and respect at all times.

"Our stadiums must remain safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces where families, women and children can enjoy the beautiful game in peace and dignity. Let us continue to uphold the values of Ubuntu that define us as Zimbabweans," she said.

21 May 2026 – Presidential Commissioning of New Glovers Solar Power Plant, Munyati, Kwekwe

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa, will officially commission the New Glovers Solar Power Plant in Munyati, Kwekwe, on 21 May 2026.

The plant marks another step in Zimbabwe’s push for energy independence and industrial growth under the National Renewable Energy Policy and Vision 2030.

Why New Glovers Solar matters:

Boosts national power supply: The plant adds clean megawatts to the grid, reducing load-shedding and easing pressure on Hwange and Kariba. That means more reliable electricity for households, mines, and industry in the Midlands and beyond

Industrial revival in Kwekwe: Kwekwe is Zimbabwe’s steel and mining hub. Stable, affordable power from New Glovers directly supports ferrochrome, steel, and manufacturing operations, protecting jobs and attracting new investment

Clean energy transition: Solar reduces reliance on fossil fuels and positions Zimbabwe to meet its climate commitments while cutting import costs for electricity

Jobs and skills: Construction and operations created hundreds of jobs for locals, with skills transfer in renewable energy installation, maintenance, and engineering

Devolution in action: The project shows how provincial assets can be unlocked for national benefit, aligning with the Second Republic’s devolution agenda.

Commissioning New Glovers Solar is a practical demonstration of Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo - Zimbabweans building Zimbabwe’s energy future with Zimbabwean solutions.
