In 2001, diamond tycoon and film financier Bharat Shah was arrested under MCOCA for helping underworld don Chhota Shakeel finance 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke' through extorted funds via producer Nazim Rizvi.

As the case unfolded, 14 prosecution witnesses turned hostile, including big names like Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rakesh Roshan, Sanjay Gupta, and Mahesh Manjrekar.

But Preity Zinta stood tall. Despite threats and pressure, she didn’t back down. In a sea of retractions, she was the only major Bollywood star who stuck to her statement, that too at a time when the underworld had major control over Bollywood.

Though Bharat Shah escaped with minimal punishment, thanks to a weakened case full of hostile witnesses, and honest judiciary, Preity’s courage remains a rare moment of integrity from Bollywood.
