First arriving companies encountered heavy fire this morning at this fatal fire in the City’s East Springfield neighborhood. I am urging everyone to please make sure you have a working smoke detector.
December 3,1999, 6 brave Worcester Firefighters lost their lives fighting a fire and searching for victims that ultimately were not there. The search then turned to searching for each other.Their sacrifice should serve as a reminder to everyone just what firefighters do everyday.
It is with deep regret The Springfield Fire Department announce the death of retired Aid to the Commissioner/ PIO Dennis Leger. Commissioners Aid Leger served the Department and the City bravely for 43 years. His passion and dedication to the fire service was unmeasurable.

@SpfldHistorian That building at the top of the park is the old Winchester Square Fire Station. The hose tower was removed in the Forty’s but the station served the City into the 1980’s.
