2025 was the first full calendar year that a Canine Team was deployed in Sarnia in nearly 30 years. Police Service Dogs are an essential policing tool, assisting officers in several ways while increasing speed and efficiency.
Yesterday, our Canine Team attended Bright's Grove Public School for a demonstration of how PSD Vader and PSD Shadow support our officers. Students observed the dogs complete a number of activities, including obedience and a bite and hold.
The demonstration was followed by a Q&A during which students asked insightful questions about the police service dogs and learned more about their training and jobs.

As Mother's Day comes to an close, we would like to say thank you to all of the amazing mothers and grandmothers at the Sarnia Police Service, and a special thank you to those who were working on this special day.
Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe 💐
Today members of the Sarnia Police Service attended the Emergency Preparedness Day at Lambton College.
Officers had the opportunity to connect with children, parents, and other community members, sharing information about the role of police in promoting safety.
It was a successful and enjoyable day for everyone involved.

Today is McHappy Day, and officers are out at several McDonald's locations in Sarnia helping fundraise for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Funds raised help families with sick children stay together at Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms.
Today, on Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, members of the Sarnia Police Service joined police services across Ontario in honouring and remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
This day serves as a reminder of the courage, commitment, and selflessness demonstrated by those who chose a profession dedicated to protecting others, often at great personal risk.
It is a time to honour their service and ensure their legacy continues to live on within our organization and our community.
The Sarnia Police Service paid tribute to two of our own fallen officers, Constable Vanderveer and Constable Lewis, whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
We were honoured to share this meaningful moment with members of the Lewis family, whose presence made this tribute especially significant.
In addition, the Sarnia Police Service was proudly represented at the Provincial Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony in Toronto, standing alongside colleagues from across Ontario in remembrance.
We will always remember those who gave everything in service to others. Heroes in life.
Great job by our members in this latest enforcement blitz.
We are actively addressing thievery, open drug use, and other concerns from our residents and our local businesses.
Today, on First Responders Day in Ontario, we recognize the dedication, professionalism and resilience of all first responders in Ontario.
The Sarnia Police Service proudly acknowledges our entire team, alongside our partners at Lambton EMS, County Fire, Sarnia Fire Rescue and Bluewater Health. Together we respond to emergencies, support those in crisis, and work to keep our community safe.

Well stated by Chief Longworth, "I talked this morning about this $1.2 million electrical upgrade, which is, in my view, throwing good money into a situation that we know is not sustainable for the future," added Longworth after the April 21 meeting.
"So it's incumbent upon us to convince the city, so we'll be doing our work this year, to develop a very strong business case, to convince the city that this should be a priority in the city. As we move forward in the next five to seven years, we are going to outgrow this building, and there are some significant issues with this building, as well, that need to be addressed."
We invite all members to join in honouring the memory of OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm and standing in solidarity with our colleagues at @OPPAssociation today. 💙
The procession will begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 30th, travelling along Highway 401 from Toronto to Oshawa. Those who are able are encouraged to gather safely on overpasses to pay their respects and show support.
For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the procession will be available here: https://t.co/AXugowSOrz

Small disruption today, with many more maintenance challenges to follow. Maintenance to hold status quo does not address critical operational needs.
It might buy a little time, with increasing costs, until viable solutions are found.
Maintenance Notice: Crane on site
On April 28, 2026, a crane will be visible at the rear of the SPS facility site to complete critical building maintenance. The cooling tower will be hoisted back onto the roof to restore cooling within the SPS facility. This follows completed repairs of deteriorated tower footings (original to the building). As the only rooftop mechanical access is a narrow stairwell, a crane is required to lift and return the tower.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, disruption will be limited to the rear parking area of the police facility. Public areas remain accessible during regular hours.
Here are the facts of what occurred in the Lambton College shooting as well as a previous incident at another licensed establishment in Sarnia. #factsmatter
