A wonderful constituent sent me this just now: Sulphur Springs tower lit blue for the late Jesse Madsen of Tampa Police Department for the five year anniversary of his last heroic act.
We remember today this amazing Tampa hero. Many, many people miss him in Tampa - and many, many people admire his remarkable courage.
Tonight, the City of Tampa will be illuminated in blue to mark the five-year anniversary of the ultimate sacrifice made by Master Police Officer (MPO) Jesse Madsen. This tribute serves as a solemn reminder of MPO Madsen’s final act of bravery and a permanent commitment to honoring all Tampa Police Officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
We also hold the families of our fallen officers close in our hearts. Their stories will continue to be told, and their names will always be said, because a hero remembered is never forgotten.
Being a Tampa police officer isn’t just about serving the community; it’s about being part of it.

Neighborhoods rally with their cops when there is strong leadership in City Hall. @BobBuckhorn is a case study for other Mayors across the country on how to be a leader. So proud that he was the leader that appointed me as our city’s Chief of Police. We need Bob Buckhorn back!
A really challenging and tragic chapter in our city’s history but out of that horror I saw our city and the neighborhoods that were affected stand together like never before. In that darkness there was light. Thanks @FOX13News for covering. https://t.co/V2G0J2lDL4
@MikeGarafolo I had the opportunity to speak to @MikeGarafolo at my hotel in San Fran the week of the Super Bowl. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He’s a class act.
Great work by @HillsboroughSAO and @TampaPD It won’t bring back this 4 year old girl but it’s loud and clear they will go after you if you bring harm to others.

Kudos to Chief Lee Bercaw and the entire Tampa Police Department! Their success underscores the importance of Precision Policing, CompStat, community connections — and why #CopsCountPoliceMatter.

Run the race that God has mapped for you, & don’t lose sight of the finish line comparing yourself to others. It’s impossible to run with purpose in someone else’s lane, & other runners can’t control your pace. There’s no podium for medals in real life. Either you finish your race or you don’t. You determine whether you win or lose.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer Dave Parker.
A legendary Pirate, Parker spent 11 years in a Pirates uniform, winning 2 batting titles, an MVP award and a World Series Championship in 1979.
The Cobra was part of the inaugural Pirates Hall of Fame class in 2022, and will be enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown next month.
Another feather in our cap. Hard to imagine that there are some elected’s dragging around their misery index and claiming that nothing good hs occurred over the last 12 years🤷🏻♂️
So humbled to receive the Leadership Florida Chair’s Award this morning. In a room full of people whose contributions to this state define leadership, I am thankful to just be amongst them. Grateful @LeadershipFla @FloridaChamber
