Vunic’s a beast. Congrats to @WestshoreRCMP Sgt Dave Vunic and his teammate Cody Canning for winning the overall team title. Impressive! Known Sgt Vunic for over 25 years when he was a volunteer at my VicPD community police station. We’ve staying in touch since. Love the guy.
Ever wonder what our officers get up to when they're off duty?
For Sgt. Dave Vunic, it meant winning the overall team title at this year's BC Bike Race alongside teammate Cody Canning 🏆🚵
Competing against teams from around the world, they put together a great ride over seven days of racing across Vancouver Island.
Always nice to meet with @ChiefVicPD to catch up on all things VicPD. We had a great chat & shared some good laughs. Thanks Chief. Note to self, dig deep into the closet and find a collared shirt next time. I may have been a tad underdressed for lunch. 😂
Thanks to the Financial Management Institute (FMI) @FMI_IGF for inviting me to speak at your conference on leadership & budgeting. Great to meet so many top public sector financial managers from across Canada. Thanks to CFO, Raman Dale, for moderating the session.
Congrats to @DeputyHiltz for being appointed @vicpdcanada Deputy Chief. As a friend & former colleague of Deputy Hiltz, I can confidently say she will be a great fit at VicPD. Well done Nat. VicPD is a great organization & you will love it here. Leave your snow shovel in ONT.
Congrats to the Filipino community for celebrating 25 years of the Philippine Bayanihan Community Centre. A home away from home where the community gathers to celebrate culture & build connections. Thanks to @melissabadua for inviting me to speak. Nice to see my VicPD friends.
Met Hannah, a @greatervicpf Police Camp graduate from Lambrick Park Secondary who attended Camp in 2025, at my favourite restaurant. She recognized me & spoke about the positive impact Police Camp and the officers had on her life. #BrightFuture#PoliceCamp
Thank you to everyone who reached out to discuss the possibility of me running for Mayor. Your trust & support has been overwhelming and humbling. It wasn’t an easy decision but I want to focus my energy on other opportunities where I feel I add value outside of politics.
Congrats to my good friend, @VRFD Chief Paul Hurst on his upcoming retirement after 42, yes 42, years of service with 20 of those years, yes 20, as Fire Chief. Simply amazing. Proven leader, funny guy & great friend. Thx for the memories. Enjoy your retirement Chief.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Debra Bell’s family & friends on her passing this weekend. She was a special person, kind, generous & funny. Her dad passed away in @vicpdcanada custody over 40 yrs ago & we developed a special bond. Riel, your mom was amazing & so proud of you.
@ftvictoriafern@vicpdcanada I hadn’t heard. Mark was such a great guy. Loved life and served with pride & professionalism. I enjoyed our chats. So sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. Sending love and hugs your way.
Met up with my good friend, @SaanichPolice Chief Scott Green (retired) to catch up on things. Always enjoyed working with Chief Green. We shared laughs and tried to fix the world’s problems over lunch. Mission accomplished. Next step, regionalization of policing services
@richardzussman You’re a class act Richard. Always enjoyed chatting with you before & after Global BC interviews. Sorry to see you leaving Global BC. Big loss. Wishing you all the best.
While visiting Lisbon, Portugal, I took time to light a candle at a church in Chiado in memory of the 16 killed & 21 injured, including a couple from Quebec, from an unthinkable streetcar derailment 4 days ago. Please keep all those impacted in your thoughts & prayers.
@ChiefVicPD@vicpdcanada Thanks Chief Wilson. You’re too kind. You’re a proven police leader who will take VicPD to the next level. My honour to turn the reins over to you.
Drove to @vicpdcanada HQ in my police vehicle & driving away in a BMW convertible with @NYIslanders color balloons. Been a blast, 35 yr policing career, 9.5 yrs as Chief! In Traffic, having big sideburns, my nickname was ‘Delvis’. Delvis has left the building!
Made the most of Del Manak Day. Gave out donuts, Tim Hortons gift cards, rode a kid’s scooter, boarded a @BCTransit bus & bought ice cream at Beacon Drive In. Probably the hardest I’ve worked as Chief! I’m exhausted. A true honour to serve at @vicpdcanada Chief for 9.5 years
Big day for a big leader! Today we celebrated Chief Del Manak and his amazing career during Del Manak Day! For over 30 years, and especially during his time leading VicPD, he's worked hard to make our city a great place to live. Here is a look back at some fun moments with the Chief as he took time today to visit residents and say goodbye with donuts, gift cards, little gifts, and ice cream! #DelManakDay
Chief Manak’s Years of Leadership – Chief Manak has always believed in working with the community, not just policing it. He focused on building strong relationships with all residents, including our First Nations and cultural communities and championed programs like “Before the Badge” to increase transparency and connection. He also actively supported local sports teams like the Victoria Royals and HarbourCats and enriched the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities by supporting Special Olympics BC.
During a challenging time with the overdose and drug toxicity crisis, Chief Manak led with compassion and understanding. He recognized this as a health issue, not just a policing matter, and quickly implemented programs like Naloxone training to save lives. He worked closely with health professionals and community groups to support harm reduction and provide help to those struggling with addiction.
Chief Manak strongly advocated for better mental health support. He expanded access to mental health teams and created programs to connect people in crisis with the help they need. He understood that strong communities need strong mental health resources.
He has been a leader in policing across the province and country sharing his knowledge and experience with other police leaders and speaking out on issues like decriminalization and human trafficking. He helped shape the future of policing in Canada.
Chief Manak always cared for the well-being of our officers, making VicPD a leader in providing mental health support with access to psychologists, wellness checks, and programs to help officers return to work after an injury or leave.
Chief Manak’s dedication, compassion, and commitment will be deeply missed. Thank you for your years of service @ChiefManak !
Thanks @WestshoreRCMP. Love the pics. Great memories. I always wondered what I’d look like in an RCMP uniform so now I know (see pic). @vicpdcanada and @WestshoreRCMP have always shared a special relationship which Supt Todd Preston and I continued given our friendship.
West Shore RCMP would like to congratulate Chief Del Manak on a well-deserved retirement 👏
Thank you Chief Manak for your dedication to the community of Victoria!
@Adam_Stirling Funny story from Del Manak Day. I’m at Beacon Drive In buying ice cream cones. 4 kids come by, I pay for their cones, one kid runs inside and tells his mom, “A man outside bought me a cone”. Mom comes running outside fearing the worst until she sees me. Glad I had my uniform on.
