Yet today, Washington micromanages everything from education to local zoning.

Has federal overreach made states laboratories of democracy... or just administrative districts?

James Madison warned in Federalist 47 that accumulation of powers in one department leads to tyranny.

Fast forward: unelected bureaucrats issue thousands of regulations yearly with the force of law.

Have we honored the separation of powers, or quietly accepted a fourth branch?

Unfortunately, the task is too big for one person, one Congress, or one generation. We can’t get those things passed all at once. So, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Pass mandatory identification to vote and mandatory citizenship verification to register and vote in Federal elections. That at least gets the ball rolling.

Congress has a 90%+ reelection rate while approval hovers around 15%.

The Founders designed a Republic of citizen-legislators, not a permanent ruling class with lifetime gigs and golden parachutes.

We've drifted far from that vision.

What single reform would you prioritize to fix it? Term limits? Balanced budget amendment? Something else?

@hightek_rednek Not at all. But taken as a whole, the Federal government has grown well beyond its intended purpose. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

@IronRakassan It still is in my opinion! My time there was awesome all things considered. I remember those barracks, our subordinate units were in similar ones. I was a Currahee at Camp Greaves before pinning warrant. Korea is where I learned small unit leadership. Baker 1/506th '01-'03
