Lionel Messi is named Man of the Match after getting two assists against England.
Messi now has a record 12 World Cup assists, four more than Diego Maradona. 10 of them have come in knockout games.
And Messi has scored or assisted in 11 consecutive World Cup matches, the longest ever goal-contribution run by a player on record since 1966.🇦🇷
You are asking people to “act like they went to school,” yet you are using GOAT as though it means any footballer who was exceptionally talented.
It does not.
GOAT means the Greatest of All Time, and that claim must be tested against the highest level of football available. The World Cup is the sport’s ultimate competition. A player cannot be crowned the greatest footballer ever without conquering football’s greatest stage. Club trophies, goals, longevity and individual awards can place someone among the greatest players, but the GOAT standard must include a World Cup.
That immediately removes Cristiano Ronaldo from the GOAT category. He is an all-time great goalscorer with an extraordinary club career, but he never won the World Cup. Calling him a GOAT simply because he is one of the best players ever is exactly the same misuse of language you displayed by applying the term to Ronaldinho and several other legends.
Messi, meanwhile, completed the entire football résumé: elite goalscoring, historic playmaking, record individual recognition, sustained club dominance, continental success and, crucially, the World Cup, where he was also named the tournament’s best player. He does not merely possess a GOAT “claim”; he satisfies the full standard.
Ronaldinho is a legend. Ronaldo is an all-time great. Messi is the GOAT. These categories are not interchangeable simply because you admire all three.
And calling people “mad,” “foolish” or uneducated for correcting your misuse of a very simple term does not make your argument stronger. It only creates the peculiar spectacle of someone questioning everybody else’s intelligence while repeatedly failing to understand the words at the centre of his own argument.
The “two GOATs” narrative is similar to the king Solomon story in the Bible
The other woman knew the child wasn’t hers so she was okay with king Solomon splitting it 😂😂😂
My oga, there are no two GOATs.
This term is usually used by people who love Ronaldo so much, but deep down they know Messi is the better player.
So, they try to out them together, you her terms like "let us enjoy them", "why compare them when you can just enjoy them".
Rio Ferdinand is the master of those terms if you watch his podcast well. They're too ashamed to acknowledge, I mean, what will people think if I admit?
So, they rather say, "there are two GOATs", there are no two GOATs. If Ronaldo won or achieved what Messi has achieved, you will never hear two GOATs, the arrogance will start from Ronaldo himself, and drop down to his fans.
Sir Dick, there are no two GOATs, Messi is the greatest player to ever touch football. The records are there, the titles are there, if we remove them all, eye test is there, you dey whine us baba mi
