Mothers, what do you do with your baby's fallen umbilical cord?
We discussed this during a health talk yesterday, and the answers were interesting:
๐ผ One mum said, "I keep it for future reference."
๐ผ Another said, "When the baby has colic, I wrap it in a cloth, warm it, and use it to massage the tummy."
๐ผ The most surprising was hearing that some people soak it in hot water and give the water to the baby for colic. ๐๐ฝ
Just to be clear: a fallen umbilical stump has no proven medical use. It should be thrown away, just like the placenta was.
Please don't give it to your baby to drink or use it as a treatment for any illness. If your baby has colic or any health concern, speak with a healthcare professional instead.
Nobody speaks enough about the pain you go through watching your parents be better parents to your younger siblings because it's like... "Yippee, you figured it out but why couldn't you do that for me?! ๐ฉ๐ฅด
If you are going to eat anything packaged. Please read labels and constituents.
If you have underlying medical conditions like High blood pressure, Diabetes, Kidney problems, stroke, liver problems etc
Take food labels very seriously.

I had an extremely preterm baby that needed an investigation. I was called as the registrar to take the sample since the baby was very fragile.
I struggled to get 2mls of blood and handed the sample over to the mother to take to the lab.
Barely 3 minutes later, I heard a loud cry on the corridor. The mother was crying and rolling on the floor. She was difficult to console.
I immediately thought her baby had died. I rushed to the baby's incubator, but she was alive and well. So I came back to ask her why she was crying.
She looked at me, with sadness in her eyes and a trembling voice she said "Sample ti daanu"
While rushing to go to the lab, she tripped, the sample bottle dropped on the floor and broke.
I felt her pain!

Do you know that male mosquitoes do not transmit diseases to humans because they feed mainly on nectar and plant juices and do not bite people. As a result, they do not pick up or spread human diseases through blood feeding.
๐ Only female mosquitoes bite humans and animals because they need blood to develop their eggs.
During these blood meals, females can transmit diseases such as:
โข Malaria
โข Dengue Fever
โข Yellow Fever
โข Zika Virus Disease
โข Lymphatic Filariasis
Really? I only pointed out that she's exhausted too. The first few hours after having a baby are physically and emotionally draining, very, very exhausting for a woman. If she had the option, she'd probably rather be at home resting as well. It's only fair and reasonable that the person she had the baby with stays by her side to support her through it.
