A long night for everyone but we successfully controlled the fire without any reported injuries.
The teamwork and coordination between the responding units and departments were exemplary, ensuring the safety of both the firefighters and the surrounding community.
The Chili Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the Union Scrap Processing site yesterday at 7:30PM. A large pile of scrap metal had combusted, resulting in a 5+ hour long battle to extinguish it.
Multiple apparatus were involved in relay pumping and flowing water while multiple excavators turned the pile. Mutual aid was provided by Churchville and Spencerport Fire, fill-in support was provided by Scottsville and Gates Fire, and CHS provided on-scene rehab support.

Tonight, Chili Fire Department Companies 2 and 3 joined to spend time with and celebrate the career of Michael "Zippy" Saporito, who has served as an active volunteer firefighter for 21 years including in officer positions.
His ongoing legacy is embodied by his two sons who are both active members of the Chili Fire Department.
Many in the community know Michael and are aware of his ongoing battle with ALS. If you're interested in a good cause, consider attending the Wesbter Rocks ALS music festival
This will enable us to replace our 12-year-old SCBA packs and provide us with additional RIC packs. This upgrade will significantly enhance our safety and effectiveness on the job, ensuring we are better prepared for any emergency.
For firefighters, the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is a vital lifeline that allows us to operate safely in hazardous environments. That's why the CFD is excited to announce that we have successfully secured a $658,549 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
This edition of CFD's Member Highlight shines a spotlight on someone who is well-known to many: Chief Andrew Wilkinson. We are all grateful for his dedicated service and the significant impact he has made on our community.
Chili firefighters drilled thermal imaging camera tactics this evening in live fire scenarios. Developing an intuition for how fire and thermal currents present themselves with these devices is critical to making quick and accurate decisions in emergency situations.
A single occupant lost control and veered off the road, causing the vehicle to tip onto its passenger side. The occupant managed to exit the vehicle through the passenger side window without assistance. CFD crews arrived and secured the vehicle, which was still running.
The Chili Fire Department's Quint 4320 and crew attended the town library’s annual truck show to help kick off their summer reading program. While we don't keep many books in the truck, we do encourage it!
A "slice" of life from tonight's bunk-in: Chili firefighters cooked homemade pizzas between emergency calls. Our regular overnight duty crews offer our volunteers a convenient way to respond to calls, reduce response times for the town, and socialize.
Our team responded to a pickup truck rollover early this morning at the I-490 WB overpass off Paul Road. Thankfully, the driver escaped the vehicle on their own. Firefighters checked for hazards and secured the scene. Stay safe out there!
