@CrookedDances Also fuck 99% of authority figures tbh, "oppositional defiance" is just common sense in action.
If we lived in a world where 99% of power DIDN'T stem from privilege, they might be worth respecting, but basic competency is beyond capability for most of em.
@CrookedDances That resonates. When I have a chance to take a step back and think, I feel like my cynicism takes the wheel and I become exponentially more savvy.
In the moment, though, that's a different story. Probably why I take damn near a week to respond to anything serious these days😅
Taking sponsorships through Twitch gets you lower rates than you'd be able to negotiate for yourself, limits your options on ad formats, and puts a barrier between you and the companies you're promoting which lessens your ability to build your relationship with them.
@CrookedDances When neurotypicals say "on the spectrum," their version of the spectrum has Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man at one end and Elon Musk on the other
@ITYSL My life is nothing I thought it should be and everything I was worried it would become because for 50 seconds I thought there was monsters on the world
@EposVox This is, I think, the most universally applicable point in this thread.
Fact is that most folks who say they want to be “streamers,” and buy into the myth of The Grind just want to play video games.
The era of just streaming is a relic and people need to wake up to that.
@theyneurospicy Definitely applies to some of the regulars at my park. Many puppers just clearly don't want to be there.
My girl is very social, loves being around other dogs more than anything and loves a good chase or wrestle, but some days even she's like "let's just go for a walk pls" 😂
For me, at least, it feels like each go around leads to me spending more time in the space between cycles.
It's where I've done the most growing, found the most success in taking control of my time and thoughts, and generally been the most happy.
@sunsetsound@Lews___Therin@FilmThePoliceLA That's funny because if I had to walk my dog past that inhumane bullshit, my first thought would be "somebody should really set that place on fire!"
So, not a great deterrent, really.
@BenjaminWeller Same!
I think you’d probably dig Sleep Token’s new stuff. Check out a song called “The Summoning” off their upcoming album, it’s a great starting point. Their older stuff is a bit softer, but it’s good too.
@BenjaminWeller Periphery’s awesome. “It’s Only Smiles” is my jam. I’m trying to learn it on guitar rn, but the operative word is “trying” 😅
If you’re looking for something a bit softer, have you had a chance to check out Sleep Token?
@_i0n @purrrmeowpurrr Great quote.
I find it weirdly comforting to remember that the "-algia" suffix of "nostalgia" quite literally means pain. The word has since been co-opted by marketers to sell retro t-shirts, but it has roots in a powerful and universally shared human experience. It's unifying.
@Psithuristicats @purrrmeowpurrr @TheTwistedFay That’s so sad and frustrating. Autistic adults getting screwed over seems to be a fundamental law of the universe or something.
There’s plenty of charity to do eugenics to us, but god forbid they put any of it into subsidizing therapy or anything else we’d actually ask for 🙄
@purrrmeowpurrr @TheTwistedFay That’s rough. The optimist in me says that just leaves more room for the good people when you find them, but waiting for them sucks, no getting around that.
More incentive to form an independent neurodivergent republic, I guess. The group hangouts would be blessedly chaotic 😂
@SuperSpacedad I don’t think that the article being bait undermines the point I was driving at, which is essentially that a) brand risk is a factor that businesses consider when building relationships and b) consumer activism contributes to proving that risk in the long term.
@SuperSpacedad Why is it an “either or” thing?
What if people let their ethics guide their consumption AND get involved in more active, meaningful forms of support?
