The Federal Government has announced a new tax framework that fundamentally changes how small and medium businesses in Nigeria report, pay, and plan their taxes. This is not just a policy for large corporations; it is a reality arriving in 2026 that will impact your business directly.
At @sunatrium, we want to ensure you are prepared to stay compliant and profitable, rather than facing heavy fines or legal trouble.
Why Expense Tracking is Vital
In the 2026 system, the single most powerful thing you can do is prove every naira that leaves your business. If you cannot show where the money was spent, authorities will treat those funds as taxable income.
Without proof of costs, your revenue looks like pure profit, leading to higher tax bills.
Missing receipts and informal payments are exactly the gaps the new system will expose.
Proper records are what protect your profit margins and keep your business operational.
To navigate these changes, your business should adopt these "Quick Wins" immediately:
a. Move away from paper receipts and verbal approvals in favour of digital records for every expense.
b. Ensure all payments are made via bank, POS, or app so records match your bank statements.
c. Never mix business money with personal funds.
d. Clean History: Maintaining a clean expense history makes taxes easier and makes your business more professional to banks and regulators.

Prioritising leaders' greed over Basic Welfare
The recent proposal by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to increase the salaries of Political Leaders is causing widespread anger and bitterness among Nigerians, and we share the concerns of many Nigerians who question the necessity and timing of this proposal.
Such thinking in the face of faster-eroding living standards of the people not only portrays the insensitivity of leaders but also exposes their greed.
The RMAFCโs reckless haste in prioritising the greed of Politicians over the desperate needs of the masses is not only provocative but scandalous. Itโs a shameless grab for more at the expense of Nigeriaโs struggling majority!
The proposed over 100% salary increase for political office holders is totally unjustifiable considering the economic realities facing our country.
We believe that political office is a service to the nation, and not a means to accumulate wealth.
It is very disturbing that the RMAFC is prioritising the welfare of political office holders over that of security personnel, particularly police officers who are grossly underpaid and overworked. We urge the government to redirect its focus towards improving the living conditions of public workers, who are the backbone of our country.
We call on the RMAFC to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians, particularly those in the public service, who have been neglected for far too long.
A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO
"I challenge anyone: conduct your investigations. You will find no stains of rigging or violence associated with my name. I have always chosen the path of peace, principle, and civility".
-Peter Obi
Earlier this month, my dear sister @AishaYesufu called to give me the disturbing information that there were no computers, functional laboratories, or electricity in the Secondary School in Chibok, the same school where over 200 girls were sadly kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014, with 70 still unaccounted for.
With a population of over 2,500, the school had only one desktop computer. Aisha Yesufu respectfully requested that I buy an additional two and help install solar lighting, even if it was only for the computer classroom.
While I was trying to contact His Excellency, my brother Governor Zulum, to enable me to visit the school, I was advised against doing so due to security concerns.
Aisha Yesufu accordingly arranged a meeting between me and the Chibok community leaders in Abuja, where I presented them with 10 laptops and 3 printers as a start. I also donated the sum of โฆ2 million each towards providing some items for the lab, the computer classroom, and a handheld motorised borehole, totalling โฆ6 million.
I promised to do more and made it clear to them that what I was doing was not a donation, but a sincere commitment and a promise to the future of our community.
However, occasions like this are deeply disturbing and cause me to reflect and personally question our priorities and the rising costs of misgovernance.
One wonders why we live in a nation where our students donโt have labs, books, or even pencils, while our leaders live in opulence, spending billions to renovate conference centres, build car parks, and furnish new lodges of international standards.
I continue to plead on behalf of all of us that the time has come for self-examination. We must prioritise critical areas of development, education, healthcare, and pulling our people out of poverty. -PO

Whatโs Trending With @OjyOkpe - Activist VDMโs Arrest Sparks Outrage
The hashtag #FREEVDM continues to gain momentum after activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, was arrested by EFCC operatives outside a GTBank branch in Abuja.
VDMโs brother accused the bank of complicity in the arrest and called for a boycott of the bank.
Meanwhile, GTbank has released a security footage showing that VeryDarkMan was not apprehended in the bank.
Reversing the Sudden Fuel Price Increase:
As Nigerians continue to groan under extremely difficult economic conditions, largely caused by the Federal Government's wrong policy choices, the NNPCL has once again raised the price of fuel (PMS) without providing any explanation.
This is both unfortunate and insensitive, considering the wide-ranging negative consequences for our economic survival and well-being.
This is neither how an economyโs resources should be managed nor how a nation should be governed. In this new measure, there is neither sound economics nor necessary compassion.
We are told that the NNPCL is now a limited liability company, regulated by agencies such as the NUPRC and NMDPRA, yet there seems to be growing confusion about the roles and responsibilities of the NNPCL and these regulating bodies.
Interestingly, both the NNPCL and the regulatory agencies are supposed to be under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria serving as the substantive Minister. Who, in this arrangement,
is regulating who?
With the unprecedented but avoidable hardship that Nigerians are enduring, the responsibility for providing a full explanation, offering alternative options, and most importantly, reversing the sudden price hike falls squarely on the Honorable Minister of Petroleum Resources/President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We hope and pray that he acts in the best interest of the majority of Nigerians, who are living under unnecessarily precarious conditions, and that he does so before his return from his working vacation.
To casually inflict such a draconian measure on the populace from the comfort of an annual vacation amounts to taking the peopleโs welfare lightly and for granted.
A New and more compassionate Nigeria is indeed Possible! -PO
My Response to the President's Address - Obi
Having led the call for the President to address the nation and respond to the demands of the people, and having listened to the belated speech, I needed to delay my response to see if my understanding of the address was aligned with
