El otro día yo iba en un viaje en avión y había unos diez hombres de una despedida de soltero, hacían mucho ruido y pedían todo el rato botellas de alcohol. Escuché este diálogo entre ellos: 👨-Me gusta la azafata, me he enamorao. 🧔‍♂️-Cuál te gusta, la rubia o la morena? 👨-La morena. 🧔-Claro, la rubia ya está vieja y gorda 👨-En realidad la morena tampoco está tan buena, pero me gusta esa corbata que lleva, dan ganas de estrangularla mientras me come la xxx.

Decidí desconectar de la conversación para leer un rato, pero escuchaba alusiones sueltas a “pagarse unas lumis” (prostitutas). Los hombres miraban el trasero de la azafata y hacían ruidos de puercos. La llamaban todo el tiempo y uno de ellos intentaba seducirla. Ella le seguía un poco el juego, porque el tipo simulaba ser amable cuando ella se acercaba.

Una mujer que viajaba con su novio dijo, espantada por la conversación, “qué asco dan” y su novio le respondió, “en realidad, todos los hombres son así cuando hablan entre ellos sin mujeres presentes, esto es como un experimento sociológico para ti”.

Esta anécdota me recuerda a una conversación que escuché hace años entre dos hombres cultos, atractivos, de unos sesenta años, a los que había visto más veces junto a sus esposas e hijos. Parecían hombres educados. Ese día estaban solos y no notaron que yo estaba en una mesa cercana. De pronto entró en el local un grupo de niñas y uno de ellos dijo, “la edad en la que las mujeres están más buenas son los 14, no te parece?”

Estas historias resultan descorazonadoras, porque muestran que hay mucha permisividad en los grupos de hombres hacia la brutalidad y la deshumanización de las mujeres. Si observamos, en el post de esta feminista turca, algunos hombres responden que en los grupos de mujeres también se habla así de los hombres (uno dice que hablamos así en nuestros “grupos de WhatsApp”). Jamás he visto un grupo de mujeres donde se haga esto.

Es preocupante que cuando se denuncia este machismo estructural, muchos se apresuren a decir que nosotras también somos así o que no todos son asi (eso esperamos nosotras); pero al mismo tiempo los hombres dicen a sus novias que “todos son así” o “mis amigos van de lumis, pero yo no”. Parece que casi todos los hombres son conscientes de que existe un problema estructural pero se indignan cuando una mujer lo verbaliza.

The DA has said they will be submitting the case for federal review, so there is a chance he could be charged and go to prison. The victims and their families are also still eligible to sue the city, the high school, and the Butler family.

Jesse Butler will most likely be applying to colleges and may even be attending one this Fall. If the state will not hold him accountable, then the public needs to. He should not be allowed to attend university unless the entire student body is warned about his crimes so that he cannot harm anyone else. Do not let this scum get away with what he did. This needs to follow him for the rest of his life. His parents are doing everything in their power to get this erased from his record and paint him as the victim. It is imperative that the public does not allow that to happen. He very likely will go on to continue his violent behavior, and next time his victim may not survive. He is a danger to women and should be punished. My heart breaks for his victims who bravely stood against him and shared their stories just for the system to betray them.
