Earlier today, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Col. Tom R.Butime officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kikorongo Equator Monument for the expansion and construction of an Information Centre, Restaurant and related tourism facilities, Kasese District.
This UGX 9.7 billion project, being implemented by Kwed Construction Limited, marks a significant investment in enhancing Uganda’s tourism infrastructure and expanding visitor experience. The @ugwildlife further supported the project by providing 2.7 acres of land for the development.
The new facilities will include:

Representing MTWA as Chief Guest at the inaugural National Biodiversity and Conservation Research Conference, Dr. @BasilAjer underscored the importance of sustaining momentum in conservation research by ensuring findings are published, shared widely, and embedded within the work of both the Ministry and @ugwildlife. He stressed that evidence on its own is not enough unless it is translated into practical action, calling for closer alignment between research, policy, and implementation. Dr. Ajer applauded researchers and academia for producing the knowledge needed to guide conservation efforts and support sustainable development.
He also reiterated @GovUganda commitment to advancing research, innovation, ecosystem restoration, and evidence-led conservation, emphasizing that the true value of research lies in the impact it creates on the ground. @ExploreUganda@TourismBoardUg@UwrtiI@ugandamuseums@UWEC_EntebbeZoo@ngambaisland

📌 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2026
As I represented H.E the President @KagutaMuseveni at the flagging off ceremony of the 2026 edition of the #ShellVPower Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in Mbarara the other day, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far motorsport has come for Uganda and the international event it has morphed into.
The #PearlofAfricaRally is among Uganda’s premier international sporting and tourism events attracting over 100,000 fans at the event and many following online.
Over the years, the rally has consistently positioned Uganda among Africa’s leading motorsport destinations with this year’s competition attracting 19 foreign crews from Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Burundi and India.
This demonstrates growing international confidence in Uganda’s ability to host world-class sporting events. I commend the relentless efforts for the organisers, @MotorsportUG, partnering entities - @ShellVPowerRT@AskKCBUganda, @TourismBoardUg, @LakeViewHotelUG among others, crews and the loyal fans that flock Mbarara year in year out for the races.
