The day before Nvidia reports: Tokyo +0.62% on its lightest volume in 4 months. Seoul +0.97% on Samsung/Hynix buybacks. Hong Kong +0.56%. Every Chinese index we track rose — on the 3rd-lightest turnover of 2026. A hemisphere in a waiting room.
Ladder leader touched board six and died there — on ¥2.43bn, more than its five winning days combined (¥2.17bn). Our dial's ladder leg didn't move: a bicycle jeweller stepped into the vacant 5-board slot the same morning. The instrument measures height, not who's standing on it.
The crowd abandoned its own book: Monday's 49 limit-ups lagged the market by 33 points on Tuesday — the 3rd-widest gap of the year, and the 2nd time in four sessions it made the top three.
What got bought instead: a liquid-cooling maker at half its April price (biggest limit-up trade of the day), rice and seed-corn stocks on a four-day-old El Niño forecast, and a herbal-medicine maker's fifth straight ceiling. Gold miners got sold with gold near a three-month high.
China's version of "up": 3,965 of 5,210 stocks rose — on the 3rd-lightest turnover of 2026. The only lighter days were the bottom of the April crash. Under ¥100m of turnover, 89.5% of stocks rose. Over ¥1bn: 46.5%.
The day before Nvidia reports: Tokyo −900 points intraday, closed up. Seoul −2.4% at the open, closed up. Shanghai's STAR 50 −2.3% intraday, closed up. Three markets, one shape, one reason.
5/ The inversion against our own read:
Every unit of the HK$80bn and ¥33bn is earmarked to be SPENT on AI hardware — much of it on boxes made by companies that fell.
On a demand reading, Monday's news was bullish for the nine. It sold anyway.

3/ The shape of it is in the opens.
All ten indexes we track fell. All ten made their day's high within 0.25% of the open.
The Shenzhen Component's entire session high was 0.13 points above its open — out of 14,118 — then it fell 3.55% to its low.
4/ What the crowd bought instead was small.
Silver, coal, shipping and agriculture: 2.43% of turnover combined.
Optical modules alone: 6.25%, on a third straight day of rising volume into a falling price.
Nobody left. Nobody piled in either.
2/ All nine traded more than ¥10bn each. Together, 7.98% of the day's ¥2.0072trn.
Ranked by turnover, that's the only session in 2026's 155 where the top nine went 0-for-9.
But "nine" is our cut. We haven't tested eight, and at eight it may not hold.
1/ Over the weekend, Alibaba agreed to raise HK$80bn — all of it for AI infrastructure.
Two days earlier, YMTC filed to raise ¥33bn on the STAR Market. Largest in its history, per mainland coverage.
On Monday not one of China's nine most-traded stocks closed up.
13/
The dial: 57.2 → 38.9 in one session.
Limit-up leg 66.3 → 30.5
Ladder leg 27.1 → 7.2
Dragon-Tiger leg 72.9 → 68.9
Big tickets still trading. Nobody holding overnight.
