@BBCHughPym HEADLINES CAN BE DECEPTIVE
There were 20-25,000 cancellations a day as a result of Dr strikes
On an average day in hospitals
- 21,000 people do not attend their appts
- 19,000 people cancel their own appts
- 30,000 appts are cancelled by the hospitals
263,000 attend appts
More proof that medicine in the UK is becoming a joke. This year only 75 new opthalmology training posts for the whole of the UK were advertised (population 67 million) and yet the royal college is keen to train opthalmologists without a medical degree/ qualifications.
I thought Royal colleges were meant to serve the needs of their members ?
@HamzaI_Med All the best in your final year. Most of what you learn at med school does not prepare you for the ‘real’ job sadly. And the Dr. Title is only the beginning of a long journey. There is always two sides to every story. Show the enthusiasm and you will be rewarded. Keep going 💪🏼
@HamzaI_Med Medicine is a vocational course. Which means you learn from observing how a doctor does a consultation and examination. This is from the basics of how to greet a patient, how to break bad news, how to involve patients’ decisions. Things a book does not teach you.
People, you do know that if the Private Healthcare increases, Doctors won’t be out of work & will no doubt be paid better
Why are they fighting for the #NHS whilst MPs & Corporates look to make money
Because they want Healthcare for everyone, understand the need & actually care
Please watch this
It show the absolutely corrupt nature of this Tory administration
Beyond disgraceful
When the Tories are thrown out, the police will be able to investigate this
@RammyaMathew I totally agree with you that 10min is not sufficient. But a snapshot of one consultant’s clinic does not reflect every clinic or specialty or hospital. My clinics are always overbooked and I do all my admin after clinics or theatre. Sadly the whole NHS is pushed for resources.
If you’re a consultant or work with consultants, it’s important to pass on this warning: the next 48 hours of media coverage will be relentlessly negative about doctors. They’ll harp on about private work, pensions, inflation and all kinds of nonsense.
Forewarned is forewarned.
@KayBurley@thomasdolphin Oh the irony. You did exactly what @thomasdolphin so beautifully articulated on his tweet! Such a poor interview interrupting continuously. What’s the point of an interview if you’re more interested in getting your selective statistics across than hearing it from the doctors?
@KayBurley Being a broadcaster comes with responsibilities. Trying to balance all sides and give viewers that perspective. The only losers when the NHS is gone are the patients. Don’t judge anyone, especially the medical profession without fully knowing the details. Do your homework first.
1. #ConsultantStrikes#NHS
➡️Today the press will be full of stories about fat cats, private practice, made up salaries, gold-plated pensions etc.
➡️ it will say that waiting lists are up and patients are being put at risk.
Please read this 🧵 and make your own minds up.
1. Tomorrow i will be supporting the NHS #ConsultantsStrike
About Me:
➡️ I am a cardiology consultant / professor @UHNM_NHS
➡️ i was from a working class background, i went to a state comprehensive. My dad left school at 16, mum at 12. I am the first / only member of my family to receive a higher education. I received a student grant to go to @UniofOxford. I left med school with little debt.
I could not afford to train as a doctor now.
@SteveBarclay I have a sneaky suspicion that health care professionals will be blamed for the eventual demise of the NHS. The ones who are desperately trying to prop this amazing institution up. Because if YOUR government decided to end it then you will never be elected again. All. Just. Games
1/ Short 🧵 on lies, damned lies, & statistics
I've seen some rather misleading use of statistics on the BBC / Sky today, its not clear whether they dont understand the differences, or they are trying to mislead
Please read all & share / RT
I’m an oncologist and I love my job. But I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing our patients with cancer and I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing its workforce. https://t.co/Liv26cn8Or #ConsultantsStrike
