Q&A
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had already issued a detailed clarification on the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme through a press release on 23rd June, 2026, addressing the misinformation and providing factual clarifications. Automobile manufacturers also issued clarifications regarding the programme during a press conference held on 4th July, 2026.
Despite these clarifications, certain concerns have continued to be raised regarding the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme. The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provide factual and evidence-based responses to these concerns.
Q1: Why did India appear to rush its ethanol blending targets when countries like Brazil took decades?
✴️The first point that must be understood is that ethanol is not a new fuel. We did not invent ethanol. More than a century ago, Henry Ford designed the Model T to run on ethanol, and countries across the world, including Brazil and the United States, have used ethanol blends for decades.
✴️Equally important, India's ethanol blending programme did not begin under the present government. The initiative has a long institutional history and milestones (all are available in public domain – some are placed at Annexure-1)
✴️A pilot ethanol blending programme was launched in 2001, formally announced in 2004, and E5 (5% ethanol blending) was rolled out across several States by 2006.
✴️The policy framework was subsequently notified in the Gazette of India in January 2013 during the UPA government. These are matters of public record.

Dear Epstein Boy @HardeepSPuri,
The energy density Ethanol is 26.8 MJ/kg, whereas Petrol is 46.4 MJ/kg. Which means theoretically, you need 1.74 litres of Ethanol to travel the same distance as with one litre of Petrol. If you think that mileage is going to be same with Ethanol and Petrol, you are mathematically unfit to stay in your position as Petroleum Minister. A school kid will do a better job than you.
You said "There is room for electric vehicles, biofuel blended vehicles, hybrid and CNG vehicles."
But there is room for Petrol vehicles. Provide us pure unleaded Petrol which was available before the greedy and uneducated lot took over India in 2014.
Just provide us pure Petrol first instead of Gadkari's alcohol. It's our right.

A city should not need a visiting dignitary to deserve cleanliness, care, and beauty.
Every time a foreign leader arrives, roads are resurfaced overnight, walls are painted, trees are trimmed, and public spaces are polished for display. The real question is: why does this urgency appear only for guests and not for the citizens who live here every day?
Urban maintenance should be a continuous commitment, not a temporary performance staged for diplomatic optics. Residents deserve clean streets, functioning infrastructure, and attractive public spaces long before any motorcade passes through.
Even more troubling is the removal of graffiti, street art, and local expressions that give a city its character, memory, and voice. Not all wall art is vandalism. Many murals and public artworks reflect the stories, emotions, creativity, and identity of the people who call the city home. Erasing them to create a sanitized image for visitors risks erasing the very culture that makes the place unique.
A truly beautiful city is not one that is hurriedly beautified before an important arrival. It is one that is cared for consistently, respects its public spaces, and celebrates the authentic expressions of its people every single day.
