Still one of my favorite Danny Ainge moves ever.
Boston had the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Traded down to No. 3, picked up an extra first-round pick, and STILL got Jayson Tatum.
The funniest part? Ainge later said he would've taken Tatum at No. 1 anyway.
Now go back and read the replies to this tweet. So many people wanted Markelle Fultz.💀
Nine years later, Danny Ainge really knew something we didn't. 😂
Wait, so Boston still gets Payton Pritchard for $7.8M this season and $8.3M next season?
And the new extension doesn't even kick in until 2028....
For a guy who's become this important to the Celtics, that's some pretty good business.
Breakdown of the Payton Pritchard extension:
Existing contract
2026/27: $7.8M
2027/28: $8.3M
Extension
2028/29: $21.2M
2029/30: $22.9M (Mutual Option)
The first year of the extension is the maximum allowed (140% of the average player salary)
Pritchard will be eligible to sign another extension starting in October 2028.
Mike Conley said Payton Pritchard keeps texting him late at night AND early in the morning with basketball questions.😂
They were watching football at a team dinner, and PP was still asking him if he needed to slow his game down.
Conley came to Boston at 38 and immediately became PP's personal basketball hotline.😭
Love that PP is still trying to learn everything he can.
8 years later and this is still one of the funniest moments in NBA playoff history.
Belinelli hits a buzzer-beater, Philly goes crazy, and the confetti starts falling.
One problem: it was a TWO, not a three. The game was tied lol.
They had to clean up the court before OT, where Al Horford helped Boston win 101-98 and take a 3-0 series lead.
Imagine cleaning up your own victory celebration just to lose the game. 💀
Back in 2018, the NBA asked 36 rookies which player from their draft class would have the best career.
Wendell Carter Jr. led the voting with 13%.
Kevin Knox and Jerome Robinson got 10% each.
Luka Dončić? ZERO votes LOL
Not one rookie picked him.
Eight years later, going back through these old surveys is hilarious.
Remember when Payton Pritchard wanted out of Boston because he wasn't getting enough minutes?
Fast forward a few years.
Sixth Man of the Year. A much bigger role on this team. And now another $44.2M extension.
What a turnaround for PP.
Love seeing this guy get paid.
Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard has agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension, plus a mutual option in the 2029-30 season, CAA Co-Head of Basketball Austin Brown and agent Max Saidman tell ESPN.
Mitchell Robinson is going to give Joe Mazzulla some interesting decisions in the fourth quarter.
Need a rebound or a big defensive stop? Mitch is exactly who you want out there.
But he shot 40.8% from the free-throw line last season.
Imagine Boston up 2 with a minute left.
Do you keep Mitch in for his defense, or take him out before the other team starts hacking him?
I already know Joe is gonna love this problem.
“I’M UPSET WE’RE NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO FOUL HIM ANYMORE.”
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla on the team signing Mitchell Robinson 😂💀
Robinson is a career 50.8% free-throw shooter & teams have developed a “Hack-A-Mitch” strategy against him!
Mazzula’s always got the jokes! 😂
The 1961-62 NBA season was ridiculous.
Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50.4 PPG.
Oscar Robertson averaged a triple-double.
And neither of them won MVP.
Bill Russell did.
But here's the funniest part: Russell didn't even make All-NBA First Team that year. Wilt did.
Back then, the players voted for MVP, while the media picked the All-NBA teams.
They clearly had different ideas about who the best player was.
The way people talk about Paul Pierce, you'd think the man never left the floor.
Everyone remembers the jab steps, pump fakes, and midrange jumpers.
But The Truth could put people on posters too.
And dropping this on his birthday? Perfect timing.☘️
We are one week away from the Celtics season with Paul Pierces birthday today we got an early time next week against the young and loaded Detroit Pistons and the defending champion NY bricks come to the garden next week for the prime opener! But we got an early game vs the hornets and Sixers this upcoming week I want to see more Hugo in action give Walsh some playing time to work on those long passes and rotate between Robinson and Queta!! Happy birthday to the truth!!! #moufsquad
Here's a Hugo González stat I completely missed.
He was the ONLY rookie last season to shoot above league average on both 2s and 3s (minimum 100 attempts each).
And he did that while having the lowest usage rate on the Celtics.
We already know the kid can defend and hustle.
Now I wanna see what happens when Boston lets him do a little more with the ball. 👀
Hugo González looking leveled-up..
Completely absurd per-minute impact metrics in his rookie season, the question is can he scale it? Looks the part so far in pre-season.

Happy Birthday to Paul Pierce! ☘️
Here's something that still makes me laugh.
Pierce grew up in Inglewood as a Lakers fan. He didn't even work out for Boston before the 1998 Draft.
The Celtics took him at No. 10 anyway.
Ten years later, he was lifting the Finals MVP trophy after beating his childhood team, the Lakers. 😂
Life really has a funny way of working out.
7 DAYS UNTIL CELTICS REGULAR SEASON BASKETBALL! ☘️
Today's #7 belongs to Jaylen Brown.
Drafted third overall in 2016. Eight years later, he helped bring Banner 18 to Boston and took home Finals MVP.
It's going to feel strange starting a season without JB in green.
Whatever happened afterward, nobody can take away what he accomplished here.
Thank you for the memories, JB. 💚

One year ago, Hugo González got a steal and a slam in his first preseason game. He had barely played for Real Madrid before the Celtics took him 28th.
What Joe Mazzulla said he liked from the start: the defensive instincts, especially off the ball.
Now in year two, Boston is counting on him as a defensive disruptor. Motor was never the question.
