Ok screw the character limit time to go long. Again, CoD was an annual release unlike Halo. So World at War came out a year later and cut the Xbox Live Numbers. Halo 3 was a first party exclusive later bundled. Still CoD sold more than Halo and as the multiple articles I've linked have shown months after launch ie peak of both games CoD 4 had MORE Xbox Live players. I was there I guess you guys were too young. Here's the real issue: Xbox never sold as much as the 360 and 360 in NA performed way better against Sony than Xbox did against PS2. So Halo 3 objectively sold more on a more popular console than either Halo: CE or Halo 2 did which I think explains the Halo 3 nostalgia now 19 years later. Halo: CE in 2007 and 2008 was still seen as the masterpiece mechanically it had hardcore tournament LAN Players even after Halo 3 came out and the 3 shot pistol may have been OP but was defining. Halo: CE had by far the best campaign and story and just idk mystery feeling of any of the original 3 games. I still say (maybe I'm old and I'm misremembering) Halo: CE had the Best Warthog Physics, then I think 3 if I remember, then 2. I played 2 by far the Most. Like I said I'm very biased. I gamed my face off on Xbox Live from January 2025 (I think I got Halo 2 for Christmas) and even after getting a 360 was still gaming on Halo 2 via backwards compatibility throughout 2006. Like I still remember some of the gamertags I'll never see again, Joish45, PaperGoat, Diabetes, LimeyLemon...I used to learn to superbounce and wraith launch out of maps in custom lobbies. I loved Halo because of CTF, Assualt, and the other team objective modes that led well to vehicles and big maps like Containment, Zanzibar, Headlong, Coagulation whatever. Maybe it was just because I was older or loved Halo 2 so much but Halo 3 had a disappointing campaign and even though it had everything I think I wanted (aside from the story) it just felt off to me in a way I couldn't explain. I was very impressed by Forge and the cool armor customizations that blew 2 out of the water but it never quiet clicked like 2 did. And I know I wasn't the only one who felt that way, at the time COD 4: MW really did blow people away like COD was big before but it was just another WW2 shooter. 4 was a huge hit on Xbox Live like everyone was suddenly playing that rather than Halo including me. And I'm not crazy or schizophrenic I clearly remember Halo 3 shockingly losing the top spot on Xbox Live multiple times to COD 4: MW. Like both franchises eventually shit the bed for different reasons like I quit playing Halo after Reach (never bought 4 and after hearing the Forerunner shit I lost interest in Halo lore) but I also lost interest in CoD after the first Black Ops. Like most Activision IP that was an annual release bled try and forced out of the public mind through pure greed just like Guitar Hero and that entire genre. So again I say Halo 3 was merely Ok and lost to CoD 4. Here's some links like it was national news because Halo used to be a flagship juggernaut franchise then lost it to CoD.

More sales doesn’t mean it’s a better game or candy crush would be a better game than any Halo release. I liked 3’s multiplayer but it was quickly eclipsed by CoD4: MW. Like Halo had vehicle combat and classic team objective modes like CTF and Assault but I think CE was best over game mechanically and 2’s multiplayer was more groundbreaking and was the zeitgeist for console matchmaking.
