Someone asked me for help with a ₹300/- online.
Read below to know what I did, by God's grace.
Who asked me for help online?
- She's a person I met once last year in a workshop. We follow each other on Instagram since then.
How she asked it?
- Without any context. Simply dropped a message requesting for help.
How my mind reacted to this?
- Is it she herself or is her account hacked?
How did I respond?
- is this you or is your account hacked?
What she replied?
- it's me only, here's my phone number, you can call and check.
What was my next checkpoint?
- why did she not seek help from her family, offline friends or neighbors? Why she had to reach out to someone online with whom she rarely interacts?
What did I ask her?
- why are you not seeking help from family, friends or neighbors in your physical vicinity?
What she did next?
- she sent a voice note explaining the financial difficulties that she and her family are going through because of which even though her father had sent a ₹1000/- but she's left with just a ₹100/- and that makes her fall short of her course fees by ₹300/-. She added that she had reached out to friends, but they don't have enough because it's a "month end" and neighbours aren't around as she is in her University, away from home.
What am I thinking now?
- this could be genuine or could be a cooked up story. She might truly be facing financial difficulties or might be spending poorly. If she has a habit of seeking help like this, she might keep asking for help time and again and there's also a possibility of her account being hacked and my help getting misused. So many possibilities!! And I have evidence for none!
Do you see the fork where I either choose my conscience to help someone in need or I choose my safety net to protect myself?
What I did next saved both, by God's grace. Guess what I did.
I suggested her to leverage her contacts in the University itself, to reach out to her professors for help. Offline help is much more feasible and respectable than reaching out for help online.
- she replied, "No, it feels too awkward to ask them for such a help, hence I reached out to friends instead of teachers. But thank you for your suggestion."
Ideally there shouldn't be any such awkwardness between students and teachers especially when students are staying away from home and if they are honest about how they are spending their money. It should be a home away from home. I asserted the same to her.
I was not able to help her with the money because I wanted to protect myself but I was able to help her with my guidance, by God's grace because I wanted to help her if she's genuine.
The reason why I post this story here is because it is a matter of discernment that actually can protect both. You protect yourself from being arrested digitally by not falling into a trap of empathy and at the same time, you are not guilty to your conscience for not helping at all our of fear and distrust.
It should neither be too easy to trust nor too difficult to trust.
When there's a lack of evidence to both, know that the final answer to everything is not always binary.

3. Get a job that is given by other people.
All because you didn't explored the unknown.
& then you wonder you why you don't make enough $
Biggest leak is not in your sales funnel its leak in you.
@onechrishanson I believe cold outreach should lean toward being educational-people need to care about the problem before they'll ever care about the solution.
That's why I try to make my outreach-and even my entire pipeline-focused on educating first.
