India crossed 2.27 million EV sales in CY2025. Everyone's focused on the vehicle.
We're more interested in what powers it.
Motors. Cells. BMS. SiC inverters. This is where durable IP gets built - and where we see the most asymmetric opportunity in India's EV ecosystem.
Funding tells the same story: EV startups raised a record $2.1B in FY25, more than doubling FY24. But deal count is falling even as cheque sizes grow.
Capital is concentrating, the field is narrowing, and the companies that endure will be built on genuine engineering depth - not just market timing.
We've put together our perspective on how this landscape is shaping up - the sub-segments we're watching, and where we think the most interesting white spaces remain.
@YGokhroo writes why India’s EV Revolution Isn’t Just About the Vehicle - It’s About the Technology Inside It

Deep tech now takes nearly half of @ChirataeVC's new fund. AI bubble? @sudhirksethi disagrees— "we have a long way to go."
In a chat with @Aish_19_Anand at @TiEDelhi#IndiaInnovationDay, the man behind 8 unicorns says India's next 100 deep tech companies must win at home first.
Live from #iDay2026!
Sudhir Sethi (Chiratae Ventures) and Rohit Sarin (Client Associates) discussed why abundant and patient capital is critical to building globally significant Indian companies.
Key insights:
• India’s innovation economy needs long-term risk capital to enable founders to take bold bets and build globally competitive companies.
• Many DeepTech startups fail not because of weak technology, but because follow-on capital arrives too late or not at all.
• Family offices and Indian private capital are increasingly stepping up to back high-risk innovation, especially as global capital becomes more cautious.
Honest, strategic, and highly relevant.

India's #ConsumerAI story is being written on its own terms- around discovery in fashion, on-device intelligence in hardware, personalised learning in education, & faster narrative iteration in entertainment.
One theme stood out repeatedly across our conversations with operators- the moat is no longer just the model. It is the data loop, localisation depth, and understanding how real users behave across contexts, languages, and attention spans.
Three ideas we kept coming back to:
-Voice is still not the interface unlock many expected
-Bharat will punish lazy localisation
-Vertical AI companies that deeply understand one user problem may build stronger defensibility than broad horizontal platforms
@anoopnmenon & @samarth_gudwala's reflections from Chiratae and Google Bengaluru Consumer AI event and panel featuring leaders from fashion, hardware, education, and entertainment- featuring voices from Myntra, boAT, Seekho and Flick TV.

Where is the smart money actually going in Voice AI?
It’s easy to get distracted by the hype cycle of LLMs, but as investors, we have to look at the first principles: capital flows, adoption friction, and unit economics.

*The Inbound vs. Outbound Opportunity*: Where the real revenue lies.
*Enterprise Adoption*: Why massive contact centers still resist AI transformation.
*The Moat Problem*: How startups can build defensibility in highly regulated sectors like Fintech and BFSI.
*Market Dynamics*: The ongoing battle between Big Tech and agile startups.

India’s economic rise has been powered by consumption, services, and digital adoption. In his insightful column for @livemint, @sudhirksethi, Founder and Chairman, @ChirataeVC, argues that the next phase will require a shift towards an innovation-led model built on product creation, intellectual property, and technological capability across sectors such as AI and advanced manufacturing.
These sectors come with fundamentally different capital needs. Longer development cycles, higher upfront investment, and delayed revenues make traditional financing less effective. Patient risk capital is essential to support companies through early-stage uncertainty and product-market development.
As India looks ahead, strengthening capital formation to support long-gestation innovation will be key to translating capability into global competitiveness.
