About Beautify Malawi, where were all these people falling over themselves to donate in the last five years?

I'm sure some of them just want to donate to the charity, but others, no doubt, have calculated that the best way to the President's heart must be through the First Lady's charity.

So they're procuring influence.

I'm sure they believe that that's the best way to position themselves for visibility when the time comes for them to bid for huge contracts.

And when they are awarded those contracts, they will inflate prices to skin Malawians alive, to recover threefold every tambala they "donated." To them, the donation is an investment. Because, let's face it, there's no such thing as free lunch.

Beautify Malawi was there in the last five years when the President was not in power. Yet they didn't want to come anywhere near it. In fact, it became moribund, it went into hibernation. It deceives no one that now, all of a sudden, it's the best-funded charity in our country.

I know the President means well and is determined to leave a legacy, but care needs to be taken not to allow corruption to infiltrate government systems through the back door.
