I am delighted to announce the reopening of the General Hospital Amachara and the renovated and retrofitted Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre. These facilities have been upgraded and will be driven by a round-the-clock power and water supply. We are determined to combat the threat of modern diseases by providing quality health care for our people.

Our target is to restore all our primary and secondary health institutions in the state to optimal functionality. We want to ensure that no resident of Abia will need to travel out of the state for medical concerns. Expect to see more of these improved facilities in the state in the coming months. I also want to issue a stern warning to vandals who steal medical equipment: you will be dealt with according to the law. My promise to Ndị Abia, which is at the heart of the Labour Party agenda, is that we shall spend our waking hours working for you, using the instruments of government to solve problems.

Special thanks to Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Betty Emeka Obasi, SSA on Special Duties, the executive team of the State's Ministry for Health and the management of the HMB for their tireless contributions in achieving this feat.

Yesterday marked the end of the 2-day South East Summit on Economy and Security Owerri 2023 organised by the South East Governors Forum in conjunction with the Ọhaneze Ndị Igbo. I want to thank the organizers and the participants for bringing our people together to discuss the security and economic prosperity of our region.

Our vision is to build a secure, prosperous, and economically robust Southeast. To achieve this, we must tell ourselves the truth and resist the temptation of letting political considerations minimize the frankness and sincerity that should be central to our recovery and restoration. Our fathers achieved so much for this region with vision, commitment, sacrifices, and partnerships. They left behind many developed cities, towns, institutions, and structures across Igboland and beyond. As leaders, we have not matched their achievements in the last forty years, but we have the opportunity to change that narrative.

This is no time for recriminations but to affirm that building our region into a secure space is our collective obligation. No foreigner would do it for us. Whatever we propose must take cognisance of who we are as a people and how we want to interact with the larger world. As a way forward, we must invest in the creative minds of our teeming youth population, education, health, infrastructure and technology. Seeking dialogue and partnership with other regions and the federal government cannot be overstated as we look forward to making the region an investment haven for the rest of the world.

We are pleased to announce the flag-off of the expansion and construction of the 3.5km 6-lane dual carriage Ossah Road in Umuahia. This road will run from Okpara Square to Abia Tower off Enugu Port Harcourt expressway, and will ease the traffic congestion during mass return, yuletide homecoming, and improve the aesthetics of our city.

Prior to this initiative, we have been able to negotiate and pay compensation to the 130 affected property owners, thanks to the help of professional valuers. If any of the affected owners have not received their compensation, it may be due to bureaucratic issues as the money has been made available already. We also engaged Craneburg, a reputable international construction company, to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the project. This is just the first phase, as we plan to continue the road to the Onuimo boundary of Abia State as part of our larger plan to improve the road network and reduce traffic in Umuahia.

As we kick-start this milestone, we call on all to support our vision for a better Abia. God bless you all.

I visited the site of the long-abandoned Enyimba Hotel Aba, a legacy project from the era of the remarkable De Sam Mbakwe. Despite years of neglect, the property's architectural allure and potential are still evident.

My aim was to access the facility's present condition and strategize for its future.

Yesterday, I visited CSS Farms in Nasarawa State, owned by Professor John Opara, former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.

I commended his vision and emphasized the potential partnership with the Abia State Government. Signing an MoU will facilitate the transfer of knowledge, and best practices in large-scale mechanized farming thus empowering our local farmers. I have directed our Agriculture Ministry to expedite this collaboration.

Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting Engr. Dave Umahi, the Honourable Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State. Our meeting provided an excellent platform to delve into the intricacies of various federal road projects in Abia State. We examined the timelines and crucial milestones associated with these projects.

During our conversation, the Minister informed us that Abia has about 11 federal road projects ongoing in the state. Some of the roads he mentioned are:

1. Section One of the Port Harcourt-Enugu Express Road, which runs from Lokpanta to Abia Tower in Umuahia, is now 100% completed, including a trailer park;
Section Two of the road runs from Umuahia Tower to Aba, yet to be completed.
2. The rehabilitation of Umuahia-Ikwuano to Ikot Ekpene-Umudike Road, spanning 49.2 kilometres.
3. A section of the Nkporo-Abiriba-Ohafia Road awarded in 2012 but has since been abandoned.
4. The Bende-Ohafia-Arochukwu section one awarded in 2018 but has since been abandoned.
5. The Aba-Owerri Road awarded in 2020, among others. He also solicited the assistance of the State Government to address issues related to the construction of a trailer park in Aro Ngwa Aba.

Additionally, we expressed our readiness to partner with the federal government to address the deterioration of several federal roads in Abia State, particularly the Port-Harcourt-Aba road and the Umuahia-Bende-Abiriba-Ohafia-Arochukwu road, which have suffered from neglect and disrepair. Other attendees of the visit included Senator Onyekachi Nweobonyi, Deputy Chairman Committee on Public Accounts, and Engr. B.U Obioha, a Director of the Federal Highway Department.

Yesterday, we commissioned the Cemetry Road, Shalom Road, and Emelogu Road projects, marking a significant step towards our mission of rebuilding Aba. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Aba for their unwavering support and steadfast belief in our vision. In return for this trust, we are committed to delivering world-class infrastructure, implementing impactful social investment programs, and driving economic expansion. Our ultimate objective is to eradicate mediocrity and foster the transformation of Aba into a thriving commercial hub.

These road projects represent only the initial phase of our ambitious plans for Aba, which is poised to become an attractive investment destination and a veritable goldmine of opportunities. We are actively pursuing avenues to attract private investors, enhance transportation systems, and establish recreational facilities and ICT-innovation parks. In this endeavor, we call upon the residents to provide steadfast support through tax compliance, responsible waste disposal, and collaboration with security agencies.

We sternly caution against any form of extortion and affirm our commitment to address such activities in strict accordance with the law. Furthermore, we are resolute in our determination to fortify security systems and ensure the safety of lives and property. Together, let us continue to rally behind the vision of a prosperous Aba.
