Harare – Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, says Zimbabwe is committed to harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate economic growth, improve public service delivery and drive national development through responsible innovation.
Addressing the Australian Embassy Artificial Intelligence Roundtable, Hon. Mavetera highlighted that Zimbabwe’s National AI Strategy (2026–2030) is built on six pillars, including AI skills development, digital infrastructure, innovation, ethical governance and international collaboration. She said the strategy seeks to empower citizens with AI knowledge while ensuring the technology is deployed safely and responsibly.
The Minister said Government is investing in AI literacy, research and digital infrastructure through initiatives such as Project Pangolin and the upcoming AI4I Challenge in Mutare, which will focus on developing practical AI solutions for agriculture, health, education, mining, manufacturing and public service delivery.
Hon. Mavetera also stressed the importance of cybersecurity, child online protection and strong partnerships between Government, academia, industry and development partners to build an inclusive, secure and innovative digital future where AI benefits every Zimbabwean.
Sir @wicknellchivayo ’s Intratrek Holdings, working with China’s CHiNT Electric, has landed a R3 billion contract to build a 300MW solar plant in Eswatini. The project, set on 120 hectares granted by King Mswati III, positions Chivayo as an Independent Power Producer and marks one of the kingdom’s biggest renewable energy ventures. The deal comes after Chivayo received Eswatini citizenship and a diplomatic passport in recognition of his philanthropic efforts.
XENOPHOBIA HAS NO PLACE IN AFRICA
The recent acts of xenophobia in South Africa are a shameful betrayal of our shared Pan-African heritage. Africa's liberation was paid for with the collective blood of her sons and daughters. To repay that sacrifice with violence and hatred is an insult to the generations who fought for our freedom.
Zimbabweans and other African migrants crossed borders not as strangers, but as brothers and sisters answering the call of a continent in need. No African should ever be made to feel like an outsider in another African land.
We call on South African authorities to act decisively, protect innocent lives, and restore the spirit of Ubuntu that binds us. To those affected, know that you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone.
Africa is our home. Ubuntu unites us. Say no to xenophobia!
