Recently, Irish Defence Forces members had to withdraw from Operation IRINI, due to the absence of a continued UN mandate.
This is an example of why the Triple-Lock is no longer fit for purpose, when it comes to peace work.
I was proud to visit Operation IRINI and see its work.
On Operation IRINI, it is deeply unfortunate that due to the absence of a continued UN mandate, members of the Irish Defence Forces can no longer participate.
‘IRINI’ is the Greek for peace and if we want to ensure continued peace work abroad, we need to reform the Triple-Lock.

On Wednesday 25th February, The Research Ireland Defence Innovation Challenge Prize Event took place at the Central Bank, Dublin. This event marked a significant milestone in the Defence Forces & Department of Defence’s flagship research programme. Minister for Defence Helen McEntee T.D. and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless T.D., announced over €1.8m in prize funding for the successful teams, Sea Scan and MASH.
