It’s been 63 years since suicide was decriminalised in the UK. But so many of us still use the term ‘commit suicide’.
Why does it matter? Language that links suicide and crime can increase stigma and prevent people struggling with suicidal thoughts from speaking out.
If we choose language like ‘died by suicide’ or ‘took their own life’ we allow space for open conversations and compassion. Let’s choose our words carefully.

@JDSports Hi, I placed an order on 26/07. My order has been split in to 3, with 3 different couriers. I’m able to track 2, but one with my Stanley cup in says this. I’m concerned as this part of the order alone was £45 and was expected to arrive by Monday.
I would like to say a massive ‘well done’ to all of our amazing performers in tonight’s concert 🎵. And an enormous ‘thank you’ to Y11’s Luana and Joni who have played such a huge part in all of our concerts over the last 5 years 🥰. We wish you the best of luck in your futures!
My first ever 5 year stint!
I’ve loved these guys for a whole 5 years!
After joining the school on the same day, I knew I’d feel a little sad once they finally left - I never knew I’d feel this sad 😭. #tutorgroup#eduqasmusic#y11music
Imagine setting 7 hours aside to read a book that I knew from p.14 was far too scary for me (can’t leave anything unfinished!) - only to find out it’s the first book of a 4 book series 🤦🏻♀️📚. Tomorrow’s quest is a search for the other 3 books (followed by weeks of nightmares 😂).
Spent the morning shopping for some new fiction books to read over half term 📚. Got home to realise I already had 11 books, from various online book clubs, that I’m yet to read 😬… I’d better get cracking!!! #seeyouontheotherside
