My nursing statement is "as a nurse, I will ensure all my patients are being treated in a culturally safe and respectful way. I will make them feel physically, mentally, and emotionally comfortable as much as I can.”

The three phases toward culturally safe practices are cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and cultural safety. It requires us to reflect on our own culture with the social structure where we operate.

Similar to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, China also has 55 minority nationalities with diverse cultures, languages and so on. However, cultural safety was hardly ever mentioned in Chinese society.

This map gives a good demonstration of the culture and language diversity among Indigenous People. We often think of Indigenous Australians as one group of people. However, they are incredibly diverse.

I find the health concept of Indigenous Australians quite interesting. They hold a holistic view of health rather than individual. If someone in the community gets sick, the whole community all get sick. This concept shows me a very strongly united society.

Racism has severe negative impacts on the health status of First Nations Australians. It lowers their willingness to seek health care. Meanwhile, after what First Nations Australians have been through, they are more vulnerable to psychological stress. #NURSING1008
Aboriginal health should be controlled in the Aboriginal hands!! I can see how the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) fit within the framework of Closing the Gap. No one can give Indigenous people better health care rather than themselves. #NURSING1008
@Pawan44288026 We often consider Indigenous Australian as one group of people. In fact, they are very diverse. This map shows an excellent demonstration of the diversity of Indigenous people!
@Pawan44288026 Without an equal education system, Indegenious people are unlikely to participate in workforce where specific knowledge is required. That's why recruiting Indigenous health professionals are very difficult.
Recruiting more Indigenous health professionals is an important step for promoting Indigenous Australians' health, as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are expected to be more comfortable when being cared by Indigenous nurses and health professionals.
To conduct culturally safe nursing practice, we should avoid stereotypes, acknowledge and respect different cultures, and avoid making assumptions. #NURSING1008
Suicide is a heavy topic, especially knowing suicide rates for Indigenous Australians are 2.4 times higher than the rate for non-Indigenous people. As student nurses, it is important to consider Indigenous clients' social and emotional well-being.
#NURSING1008
AIHW shows the suicide rate of Indigenous Australians is much higher than Non-Indigenous Australians over the past 20 years. Contributing factors to Indigenous suicides, such as unresolved grief and loss, trauma and abuse, removal from family can't be ignored.
#NURSING1008
#NURSING1008 The social and emotional wellbeing of First Nations Australians is linked to suicide rate, cluster suicide and intergenerational trauma. These connections can help us understand the risk factor for conducting suicide and bring potential prevention.
Intergenerational trauma can lead to a vicious cycle in Indigenous communities. What should we do to address this trauma? How can we, student nurses contribute to this?
#NURSING1008
The trauma of survivors from the stolen generation is passed on from one generation to the next, disrupting Indigenous Australians' physical and emotional welling in long term. #NURSING1008
I agree that the Australian day should be changed. 26th of Jan is a core invasion date. When I think about what colonisers have done, I believe the 26th of January should be a day of mourning rather than a day of celebration.
