As I mentioned in the post, there are a number of other vintage Game Freak postcards that show off some designs we’re not as accustomed to ✨

One notable example is the 1996 New Year’s postcard, sent out a month before Red and Green were released! It features Professor Oak, Red, Green, and Green’s sister! And of course, Pikachu!

Ken Sugimori illustrated this card as well. However, it’s believed that Atsuko Nishida drew the line work for Pikachu, and the coloring (white belly and all) was done by Ken Sugimori.

Here’s another great example by Sugimori for the year 2000. This one, referencing Gen 2 and the Ruins of Alph, features the Unown that spell “A Happy New Year” (picture 2)
