@JohnKingCNN you are incorrect in your statements about the WHO. The WHO is a Secretariat. The countries (including USA) run the WHO so blame the countries (WHO members) who make the decisions.
@BarackObama Now is the time to link emissions to health issues... the math has already been done. It needs to be brought back into mainstream esp since CVD and influenza sufferers are likely to be those most impacted first.
@duffyinthecove You raise important unresolved issues & hence the need for collaboration & more fisher driven research. In certain cases (critic. endang sp. entrapment) where options are to close the fishery or find a technical solution, this may be the only option. 1st do a risk assessment.
Rope-less pots and traps can significantly reduce entanglement - but further investment in prototyping and greater partnering between fishers, NGOs and agencies needed to find acceptable & "workable" solutions. Win-Win is possible. Innovate and collaborate.

#COFI33
Blue Growth #BlueGrowth is an enabling mechanism that prioritizes & links SDG 14 "Life below water" with other SDGs that support lives and livelihoods above water. A COFI recommendation for the Secretariat to prioritize piloting BG in SIDS and secure funding is critical
@FAO@BlueCommunities Fisherman or Farmer?
Images can sometimes be misleading. Robert Conrad, Head of St. Margaret's Bay Tuna Fishermen's Assoc. & small scale trap fisher and his wife Peggy are also avid household farmers. Community resilience is about having options. NS Canada

By empowering #youth, we can achieve #ZeroHunger.
Youth are the next generation of fisher folk, land and ocean farmers. We need to provide them with the opportunities, tools and training they need to succeed.

Encouraging COFI delegates to recall that SDG 14 is not only about life below water. For atoll communities especially it is the foundation of food security, community resilience and livelihoods above water. Wotje atoll RMI
Thanks CRFM. Great to hear voices of SIDS on CC. #islands#climatechange, #CRFM, at #COFI33@FAOSIDS. Support for a well financed global SIDS action program (Pacific, Atlantic and IO) is essential because fisheries represent food security and sustainable livelihood aspirations.
Great that safety at sea is on the table at COFI #COFI33@FAOfish. But do we have good data for the SS fisheries @SSF_Nicole on loss and life and accidents? More effective monitoring of SSF sector accident reporting must be part of the COFI report at the end of the week.
@GGGInitiative
Well done GGGI. Great to have these issues brought back to COFI. Follow up by COFI members specified in the COFI report at the end of the week is critical. Gear marking is an important step in this process but other tools need to be utilized. and actions taken.
