@RidleyDM@soblackandblue@Noahpinion I hope they continue to make improvements- I don’t think people should have to feel unsafe on our shared assets. I’m in the dc area too and use metro. I worked in NYC 10+ yrs ago though I have used the subway a few times in the past 5 years, including with my kids
@RidleyDM@soblackandblue@Noahpinion Ok but apparently there is money also being spent of security improvements so that people feel more safe, so doesn’t that go towards solving the problem?
@soblackandblue@RidleyDM@Noahpinion I have no idea because I can’t read the whole article. But if they literally said we are motivated to spend this money so that people feel more safe, I think that implies they want people to feel safe?
@RidleyDM@soblackandblue@Noahpinion Ok well I don’t know enough about racial breakdowns and media consumption to try to convince anyone, nor do I want to try. I’m just basing what I say from people I know.
@soblackandblue@RidleyDM@Noahpinion I can’t read the article but the screenshot says investments were made in security in response to the public feeling things were unsafe. Seems pretty straightforward and different from when fox correspondents spend hours talking about how dangerous cities are.
@RidleyDM@soblackandblue@Noahpinion Sure that could be- but the propaganda part is what is what shapes that perception for a lot of people who never go near the subway.
@soblackandblue@RidleyDM@Noahpinion I never said I don’t accept any of that- I’m just saying that you can’t rule out how the media shapes these perceptions as well- which seem pretty obvious to me.
@soblackandblue@RidleyDM@Noahpinion If that were true, I feel like you’d see more responses at the 2017 levels in your chart. Assuming there is some liberal counter to what Fox News is pushing. But I don’t really know what NYT and MSNBC type propaganda is that you are referring to.
@soblackandblue@RidleyDM@Noahpinion Sure if you say so, I don’t know what the stats are. But my point is that New Yorkers are still influenced by Fox News type propaganda whether it’s by actually watching through cable or by videos shared on social media.
@RidleyDM@Noahpinion Maybe there’s some of that, but I think the vast majority of people who are anti train have very little actual experience riding the train.
@Mads_Hattered@xwanyex I don’t “want “ to disregard anything, your analogy just doesn’t hold up. In a sundown town, a threat is explicitly made that minorities are not welcome and violence will be imposed. Meanwhile, if you’re scared to go on the train, that’s how you feel but no one threatened you
