Fact check: So does the Cong manifesto talk of wealth redistribution as alleged? Or is this a classic example of twisting words and being economical with truth? Once again, having gone through the manifesto, this is what one found on the subject :

1) it says: ‘will address the growing inequality of wealth and income through suitable changes in policies’

2) it says: ‘ caste discrimination is a reality.. while OBC, SC and ST constitute nearly 70 per cent of India’s population, their representation in high-ranking professions, services and businesses is disproportionately low”.

3) ‘will conduct a nation-wide Socio-Economic and Caste Census to enumerate the castes and sub-castes and their socio-economic conditions.. based on the data, we will strengthen the agenda for affirmative action..

4) ‘we will ensure that the minorities receive their fair share of opportunities in education, healthcare, public employment, public works contracts, skill development, sports and cultural activities without discrimination’

I don’t know where the manifesto says wealth will be ‘redistributed’ much less given to minorities. However, Congress should clarify on point 1: what are the specific policies it intends to bring to address growing inequality in wealth and income. What does Rahul Gandhi mean by the catch line ‘jitni aabadi utna Haq’? India needs affirmative action for disadvantaged groups, it doesn’t need more reservation. And yes, Wealth creators who work within the rules must be celebrated, not targeted. #BattleFor2024
