Newton Police Chief Rob Burdess arrested a man by the name of Noah Petersen tonight at a city council meeting. During public comment, Petersen criticized the police department and said it supports domestic abuse, referring to a specific officer. The mayor demanded he be removed.
I had the chance to stop by the Newton YMCA and share that I have secured $2.78 million to expand their childcare center and create 50 new childcare slots!
Reliable childcare helps working parents, strengthens local businesses, and keeps Jasper County moving forward. I’m proud to help support a project that will make a real difference for Iowa families.
I'm living off the high from my almost 3-year-old daughter asking me this morning: "Daddy can I listen to Prince?" Other than the time she asked for more veggies at suppertime it's the best thing she ever said to me🥲
@Rushthewriter I, too, had Gold version :’) but I had to play it on a Gameboy Pocket. I wouldn’t get a Gameboy Color until Crystal came out. I miss my Gameboys…
Newton woman is facing a Class B felony for setting fires to her boyfriend's house. When police asked her what if the entire house had become fully engulfed, she said: “Oh well. This is my ‘Independence Day’ just like the Martina McBride song.” 😬

@JordoGonzo I find it odd that the governor is speaking for the police investigation. And on details that aren’t really pertinent to said investigation? Like the sex and relationship of the roommate. Or his opinions on how he was radicalized. Like, why? Just strange.
@JordoGonzo Disgusting hot take. Forget the fact this person is probably projecting their own insecurities into this take — which is already pretty bad on its own — but to say To Kill a Mockingbird is not particularly interesting is maddening! Pure stupidity.
Like I said, it's ugly. My headline in the print version was "Loathe they neighbor," and I feel like it fits. Which is unfortunate. I'll end this thread with a quote from Julie Smith, executive director of Capstone, that kind of sums up everything the story touches on:

I received a news tip thinking I would be walking away from the board of adjustment meeting with a positive story. It didn't quite work out like that. It got ugly.
"Capstone Behavioral Healthcare is met with scrutiny by city and neighbors after buying home for clients"

Mental health clinic argues it doesn't need conditional use permit from city, neighbors say they should have been notified before purchase https://t.co/x67P1qti05
The hearing was for the board of adjustment to determine whether Capstone was exempt. Again, Capstone remained silent on some information and held strong that its interpretation of state code was correct. The board of adjustment essentially tabled its action.
