Remember me, O Lord, Thou Who rulest above all power; and give a well-ordered speech in my mouth, that my words may be pleasing in the sight of the prince.
the American System tradition that ran through Clay, Carey, and the protectionist Republicans treated tariffs, internal improvements, and national credit as tools to build diversified domestic productive capacity, create home markets, and raise labor’s real returns precisely against British free-trade extraction. Carey’s empirical case was that protection expanded both production and consumption power while free-trade periods produced retrogression.
Collapsing that entire developmental-protectionist strand into “the British playbook adopted on behalf of the City of London” taints the anti-extractive, high-wage, industrial-capacity side by association with the financial-centralization side. They were linked in practice, but they are not identical.
Burr was more likely the traitor. More documented evidence exists.
@EMBurlingame Some things are being unfairly conflated and glossed over. Warriors use weapons. That doesn’t mean all weapons are tools of tyranny. The aims of these men and the aims of the Milner group were not the same, regardless of how things have developed since.
@BreeSolstad For a while. All the refineries are being shut down because climate change. Which makes the price higher regardless of the oil prices. The process takes years. Started a while back. Takes even longer to recover because the workers who can do it are out of work.
@ColonelTowner What if he knew that? Suggest amnesty but not actually suggest amnesty as strategy then follow through with campaign promise and deliver no actual amnesty?
@TFL1728@mvanwink1999 Maybe there is a reason that the legal groundwork had to be laid, and it had to be laid according to a schedule we don’t have for ends we suspect but do not know.
@TheDebriefing17 Why did Pius XII create it (so religious houses could send money to rebuild Europe), who took it over and when, who did Francis put in charge of Vatican bank reforms and what happened to him
