Resident Evil Requiem is Alan Wake 2 🤔
Now that's I've completed the latest installment in the Resident evil franchise. I have some thoughts 💭
For starters no I don't think Resident evil requiem is a copy of Alan wake 2, I do think it's takes elements of that game and transcends it, and no this won't be a one to one comparison of both games instead I'll be giving my thoughts on what I really liked about requiem
101 OF INTRODUCING A NEW CHARACTER 📖
One thing that Alan Wake 2 does really well is introduce the character of Anderson flawlessly, yes I said flawlessly because they didn't let her carry the weight of the story alone but made her interesting while keeping players with a familiar face in Wake bouncing their stories off each other perfectly that it turns Anderson into a fan favorite.
Resident evil requiem captures that flawlessly also with Grace and Leon and also manages to push it even beyond by streamlining the plot, while most would prefer how you can bounce around on your own accord between wake and Anderson, I think making Leon and graces switches streamlined actually helps the narrative, as players won't have to worry about missing any story bits or choosing who's Loop to follow first, just going with the flow of the game.
GAMEPLAY IS KING 👑
While both games are survival horrors, their core gameplay loop is spiced up by switching between the two main cast in different segments of the game. While this in of itself was a fresh concept that cemented Alan wake 2 as one of my favorite games of all time, Requim turns things up a notch by making each character's segment even more distinct
While Alan wake focuses on story elements and visual distinctions to act as the difference between Alan and Anderson.
Requiem pushes this further by keeping Grace's segments rooted in the deep claustrophobic creepiness of survival horror and all it's glory, but turns Leon's sections into a virtually high octane slaughter fest with survival horror elements, and I'm here for it all day.
TRIP DOWN NOSTALGIA LANE 🛣
While I'm not a sucker games that rely solely on nostalgia baiting their audience to sell, I've always thought it was handled well in Allan Wake 2 bring us back into Bright falls and the dark place while introducing new locations expanding the area.
Resident evil unlike Alan wake which has only 2 installations, have gone multiple routes with their games, this only makes the return to Raccoon City in requiem hit even harder and don't get me started on Leon who is a living breathing Nostalgia fest.
Resident Evil Reqium, if you aren't caught up yet, is a game I really enjoyed playing. It has it's flaws yes but I think it got more things right than it got wrong, and most of the things it got wrong are really nitpicky.
This isn't a traditional review, I couldn't help but notice the glaring similarities between both games and wanted to talk about them a little, so make sure to support the post to enable me make more posts like this 😉
