Extraordinary statement found in a Met Police crime report obtained via a DSAR:

"The informant has been provided with the crime reference number and advised this has been recorded but will not be investigated unless the Financial Ombudsman Service [FOS] identifies a crime"

[this was never conveyed to the victim who is uncomfortably referred to as 'informant'].

How can the Met Police possibly be avoiding investigating serious financial crimes on this basis?!?!?!

Is this why the Met Police fail to investigate all crimes involving FCA authorised firms and banks?

Because they have established a protocol whereby they will not investigate at all unless the FOS first reports the crime to them. A protocol, that's clear as day in this report, but that is not being disclosed to public and victims.

The FOS has no scope for crime. Crime is entirely within the scope of the Police.

How can a police force be using such a protocol when a serious crime was reported to them along with evidence to support the allegations, and with intent to avoid investigating it?

It is more disturbing when you consider that this crime report also included this:

"The informant does not believe the Financial Ombudsman Service are fit for purpose so is refusing to contact them."

The victim told them in no uncertain terms that they would not be taking this to the FOS.

More evidence for the @CommonsJustice who asked the CPS last year why there are so few prosecutions for fraud.

Like the evidence I presented to the Committee proving Actionfraud and City of London Police are not reviewing any fraud reports (just sending out timed fob off responses 28 days after the report was filed), here is further evidence proving that the lack of prosecutions is due to the fact that the Police have adopted a variety of disturbing protocols to avoid investigating these crimes in the first instance.
