CEOs are quietly realizing the AI replacement plan has a problem.
Two problems, actually.
One: the token costs for running AI agents are now exceeding what they were paying the employees they fired.
Two: when the tokens run out, the AI stops. Just stops. No continuity. No workaround. Just a spinning wheel where your workforce used to be.
You fired humans to save money and bought a subscription that bills you into a corner.
The employees you let go knew what to do when things broke.
The AI just invoices you for the outage.
And then there’s the permission problem nobody wants to talk about.
To do its job, the AI agent needs access. Full access. Your systems, your patents, your contracts, your future plans. Everything you spent years building, handed over to a process that has no loyalty, no discretion, and no skin in the game.
You didn’t hire a replacement.
You gave a stranger with no soul the keys to everything you own.
Enjoy.

I don’t know which government workers need to hear this but…
In the real world, people are laid off from their jobs at anytime, for any reason.
Constantly.
The hard part about this market is that, at least in tech, Employers Markets are so uncommon.
So even senior & experienced SWEs, PMs, and Engineering Managers themselves aren’t sure how to navigate their job search right now (let alone junior folks).
My advice: don’t rely on cold job applications and get proactive.
As we wrap up 2024, I want to acknowledge how challenging this year has been for everyone in the job market.
More importantly, I want you to know that it’s not just you.
This market has been absolutely brutal. It’s been unpredictable, frustrating, and exhausting for everyone. You can do everything “right” and still not land a job.
I hope 2025 is the year where things turn around for you.
I hope this year is the year you find the job you’ve been searching for…the role you deserve, where your skills are valued, your contributions are recognized, and you feel like you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
I’m pulling for you.
Here’s to fresh starts, new opportunities, and all the success you deserve in 2025.
