@Jennife34920191@unlvpg When I taught economics I always liked teaching about monopolies and how they cannot exist without governments granting favors to the businesses. Students understand how unfair it was and how it destroyed innovation, then we talked about copyrights. Same old song.
@amandad87019027 Absolutely, one of the gentlemen in my methods class was saying his school had a bunch of 3d printers collecting dust because nobody knew how to use them.
#cit602#module15. "Millions of dollars are spent annually
on classroom technology, but having technology available in classrooms is only half the battle."
It is one thing to have the tech, it's another use it productively. The sites in M15 gave ideas, now we need to use them.
@Francis96600393@hallawayjoe@unlvpg "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."
Martin Luther King Jr.
@SCollins24 I threw this up too. I find it interesting that a monopoly on written work encourage creative, but in every other industry creative is driven by competition. Imagine if phone companies had this kind of protection, wood we have cell phones or rotary phones? #cit602
#cit602#module14. I worked for an assistive technology company before becoming a teacher a d have seen how much the right technology changes a life. I have seen power wheelchairs that can raise and lower kids, machines that let people speak again, (1/2)
#cit602 and return people's mobility to them. I can say my favorite part of that job was helping people with MS, Parkinson's, ALS, and so on get back an active life. It is incredible how much these technologies can do. I have helped people who can only move their eyes walk
#cit602
I have always felt intellectual property is wrong. If a lab scientist finds let's say a protein that cures ALS this is not subject to copyright protection but, "my humps, my humps my lovely lady lumps," is.
#cit602. "the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work." How on Earth could one assume that use of a picture or song in a classroom could affect the market for that creator?
@ThomasR09152848 @unlvpg People fail to understand that people judge you based on the information they have. If your writing is the only thing they have to go on, then it clearly shapes their opinions about you. Being able to clearly communicate is an important skill learned in school #cit602
