With the journey from #Zurich to #Amsterdam over, so was my sleeper train adventure. I had a couchette this time, which meant sharing a cabin with five other people. The Dutch know how to pass the time with drinking games though… what a ride! 🍻

The plan to move to #Melbourne for a year in 2023 is coming together nicely. There’s a visa that costs $300 each and means my wife and I can take our jobs with us. The companies we work for both have offices in #Australia, it’s the luckiest of coincidences. 🤞

I'd been told to go to #Uetliberg when I was in #Zurich for amazing views of the city. There's very few places in the world where you can take a train from the edge of a lake to the top of a mountain in 20 minutes. This is what I saw from the windswept tower at the peak. 😍

12 hours isn’t enough time to see #Zurich. I arrived from #Ljubljana in the morning and left for #Amsterdam in the evening, so I rushed around the city as best I could. 😤 It’s jarring to go from #Slovenia to #Switzerland because everything is so much more expensive!

As if I didn’t get enough of trains on my journey to and from #Croatia, I went to #Slovenia’s Railway Museum in #Ljubljana. I’ve always been fascination by steam trains; there was a lot of restored locomotives to see in the old engine shed. Overnight to #Zurich comes next. ⏳

A friend is getting married in #Savannah next year and I’ve been invited. I’m thinking of flying to #NewYorkCity, spending a few days there, then going to #Charleston for the weekend. I’d like to go to #Florida afterwards, as I haven’t been since 2014 and I love the sunshine.

I had two more overnight trains to go: #Ljubljana to #Zurich, then onwards to #Amsterdam. I'd have about 10 hours in each of #Switzerland and the #Netherlands, enough time to explore before leaving for the next city. This part of the journey was definitely more of a rush.

It's been an exciting few days! I finally went to the dentist, our group of 15 all got tickets for #Glastonbury, I went to see the @backstreetboys at @TheO2, I got tickets to see @itspetergabriel, and I went to the @jworldexhibit at the @ExCeLLondon. Life is good. 😎

The bus arrived in #Ljubljana at 3:00am. 😴 I was staying at a hostel in #Metelkova, which was a five minute walk from the station. Under cover of darkness I couldn’t see how eccentric the area was. In the morning I got such a surprise when I saw the buildings. 😍

It takes 10 hours to get from #Sarajevo to #Ljubljana; this is the part of the journey where I questioned not flying most. With so many border crossings to get from #BosniaAndHerzegovina to #Slovenia via #Croatia, I’m very used to getting off a bus and queuing with my passport.

I took the cable car up #Trebević, where the remains of the #Sarajevo Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track are located. You can get on the track and walk it like it’s just a raised path through the woods. There was some interesting graffiti to be seen on the banks.

This is the spot where Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914. Standing on the #LatinBridge and looking at the site where such a world-changing event happened is very surreal. #Sarajevo has so much complicated 20th century history.

Here’s the adverts I was talking about yesterday. The Nokia phone contract actually runs until 2005. These billboards have been there so long that they were put up nearer to the Siege of #Sarajevo than the present day. 🤯

Getting the train between #Mostar and #Sarajevo is like travelling back in time. There’s so few trains that the stations haven’t had a makeover in decades. In Sarajevo Station, there’s even adverts for the new Peugeot 206, and a Nokia contract that runs until 2004!

There’s the bridge. #StariMost was so busy when I visited! There was a moment when nobody was stood on it, because a local was about to jump into the water. It’s 20 metres high and the water’s very cold, but apparently it’s a tradition in #Mostar! 🥶
