KATIBA DAY MESSAGE — LINDA MWANANCHI

Today, as we celebrate Katiba Day, we are reminded that Kenya has one of the most progressive constitutions in our history — a Constitution built on dignity, equality, freedom, accountability and the promise that power ultimately belongs to the people.

But we must also be honest about our reality.

Over the last four years, many young Kenyans have struggled to fully enjoy the rights and freedoms that our Constitution guarantees. The right to speak, to assemble, to participate in public affairs, to demand accountability and to simply be heard has, for many, felt more like a promise than a lived reality.

And yet, I refuse to lose faith in the Constitution.

As Secretary General of Linda Mwananchi youth league, my hope is that we will continue to defend it, respect it and, most importantly, live by it — regardless of who holds power.

To the young people of Kenya: our Constitution is not a document that belongs to politicians. It belongs to us. It is our shield, our voice and our contract with the nation.

I dream of a Kenya where, after the storm has passed, Katiba Day after 2027will feel patriotic again — not because our struggles will have disappeared, but because we will have reclaimed the meaning of citizenship, restored faith in our institutions and remembered that defending the Constitution is ultimately defending ourselves.

May we never become too tired to demand our rights.
May we never become too afraid to speak.
And may we never surrender the Kenya promised to us by the Constitution.
